DIY event

A DIY / listening session event is being organized for a meeting in the Cary area. I'm posting here for the guy that's putting it together to see if anyone's interested in attending. The focus will be on DIY speakers but you're welcome to bring your own speakers (commercial or DIY). Everyone is welcome whether you like to build your own stuff or just like to listen. It's possible I'll have a few of my commerical designs there and may also bring my test equipment if you would like to have your speakers measured.

I'm not sure when this would be but possibly late August or sometime in September. Let me know here if you would like to attend and I'll pass the information on to the guy who's planning the event.

That sounds interesting.  I bought  my speakers as a kit and modified them. I would be happy to see how they measure. Can you produce waterfall plots?

The version I have of Clio doesn't have waterfall plots. I once thought that it was something I needed but after using the system for about four years I haven't missed it. There are other ways to look for energy storage or ringing. You can look at the impulse response and 2nd/3rd harmonics to get an idea of possible problems with a driver. What speakers do you have?

Rick:

Sounds fun!  Good luck getting any of the NC guys from AC to go.  I tried getting them together for a meet with a very well known designer from Canada, and that didn't seem to peak anyone's insterest except for maybe one person.

My speakers are VMPS 626R. I am interested in waterfall plots because it could be a useful tool to choose the best stuffing for the subenclosure  behind the mid panel.

Actually the best thing to do is use polyfill and then run measurements without the crossover. That way you'll be able to adjust the crossover for the right response. What modifications did you do?

Rick,

I would be very interested in attending, depending on the day and time.

Thanks!

I'm new to Audiocircle, and am interested in the DIY event.  Live in RTP area, so it would be in my backyard.

Welcome to AC  :)

I don't know if/when it will happen but some of the guys here get together on a fairly regular basis. There's also the Piedmont Audio Society if you've never been to one of their meetings.
