N3 - TL or BR ?
« on: 5 Oct 2013, 12:33 pm »

Hi Danny and all Audio Circle members.
You might remember that I bought from you a pair of N3.
If I want to up-grade the enclosure from the N3 to N3TL,
unless I am wrong, the improvement will be mainly in the bass region,
am I right?
Now, how about the difference in sound (Mainly bass) between the
N3 in a TL enclosure versus bass reflex enclosure ? ? ?
Of course a bass reflex enclosure is a lot easier to build,
especially for someone like me with five thumbs instead of 4 fingers
and one thumb.

The improvement from the TL cabinet is lower bass extension, more low bass output, better driver control, and slightly more effortless lower mid-range.

A bass reflex design will allow a -3db down point of 48Hz with these woofers.

The TL design allows a -3db of 40.5Hz.

And the TL design is actually just as easy to build as a bass reflex design. And there are plans for it. There are no plans available for a bass reflex design.

Hi Danny and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for the info.
Since I will give some help to the N3 in the bass region
with my two F12G Rythmik subwoofer,
the Bass Reflex would me the way to go,
if I build the enclosures myself.
If the enclosures are built by my cabinet maker,
then I will go only with the TL just in case someone wants
to buy my subwoofers and I want to use the money to upgrade
something in my system.
Thanks again.

It will actually sound better with the TL cabinet and blend better with the sub. Been there done that, and to me it didn't make sense to offer it with a ported box. The TL design just sounded too much better.

And if you build a ported box then you have to build a stand for it. The TL design doesn't need a stand.
