Thanks Jim. I am considering a three way system over two way.

Heard these at RMAF among the best regardless of price.

Having gone active myself I can attest to it being among the ultimate upgrades. But beware, it can lead to...obsessive behavior:o :o :o
Don't know how I missed your referenced topic the first time around, but my-o-my, what an amazing package!!  SET tri-amped power if I got that right.  Ribbon mids and highs, or planar, rather.  Grand size undoubtedly well built room.  I think you are ON the mountaintop, Pez.  Of course, I'd have to have a wee tube pre and my analog front end to put your system to spectacular use cause I DO have the albums.  Good listening to you, sir.  I much admire what you have done.

Jim,
Thanks for the comments! Yep the room is soundproofed very very well. I can listen at any volume I want any time without bothering anyone else in the house. :o My dad, brothers-in-law and I built the room from scratch. I built the SET amps too. Very happy and proud of this whole system as I have modified every piece of gear I own except for the Bolder Modded squeezebox and the woofer amp.

Any way, sorry to go OT, but to bring it back full circle a modified dcx is a phenomenal way to go active. The problem with hand building an active crossover is being able to adjust for bass issues, driver anomalies and other nasty stuff that really must be dialed into submission. This is one of the biggest (if not the single biggest reason) to go active.

My pleasure.  Listen well.

I had that experience when I talked to someone at Rane. .I am wondering what other people are using for their cross-over( active), amps and speakers .

I use the basic XM1 Marchand modules with upgraded opamps, cost about 170$ (for biamp configuration/assembled&tested) plus case. This includes the power supply/+/- 15v.DC, 3pairs RCAs, fuse, upgraded opamps @ $11. ea. Extra crossover modules are $7. ea. You can save a little money if you order the kit, but I opted for the factory tested.

I also used a Rane AC23 to zero in on the crossover freqs'...the Marchand is way quieter/cleaner than the Rane.

Open baffle speakers like these 3 ways are easy to build and lend themselves to multiple amps and active crossovers. For awhile I tri-amped with an active crossover with good results but the cabling was a nightmare. Nowdays I use a 2 way Ashly and tie the tweeters to the full rangers with a cap, powered by a SET amp while driving the bass woofers with plate amps
