Can I make the OPPO 103 work with the BDP2?
« on: 21 Feb 2013, 02:50 am »
So here is the deal. I have been converting all of my CD to FLAC and buying highrez music and storing them on a WD NAS.  I am planning on getting a BDP2 but have yet to decide on which DAC. Let me put it another way, I am dying to get a BDP2 but with no DAC it is worthless to me. I'm leaning towards the Calyx Femto DAC but money for that is an issue right now.

So, maybe I am crazy, but I though well I do want a new SACD player so maybe I could use the OPPO 103 for the time being until I get a real DAC with the BDP2. And then when I do get a DAC I have a new Blu Ray player.

Not sure how the connections would work. Or if I would need an external screen to operate the OPPO.  I'm very lost at this point at what my best option is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I doubt you can make BDP work with Oppo 103

BDP is a digital player:
 - will read the files from USB attached storage or from NAS
 - will output digital signal to be converted by a DAC

Oppo 103 doesn't have any digital input for external players (coaxial or USB). Oppo 105 will have those inputs.

Do you not have an audio receiver or processor that you're presently using in your system?

If so, it will have a digital input you can use.

The cheapest easiest way would to buy a BNC/RCA cable and go from the BDP-2 to your pre-amp or amp,
If you have a pre-amp or amp.

The cable is cheap and available here $19.00 for a 6 foot.

I have the oppo 103 and have plugged in a USB drive, and played flac files.
The 103 was using the HDMI output into to my pre/amp. It's ok, but not as good as
 the BDP-2 - bnc/rca into my pre-amp.

If you do not have a pre-amp or amp,
when the BDP-2 firmware allows you to output on USB,
you MAY be able to go USB from the BDP-2 to the oppo USB input, then out to ?
I would not use it in this scenario.

Thanks all.

I have the Ars Sonum Filiomania Preamp/amp and it does not have those connection.

So looks like I need to go down another rabbit hole  :(

when the BDP-2 firmware allows you to output on USB,

So has that been decided? I asked the question if that was a direction they were going but never got a response.

Are you saying your Ars Sonum Filiomania Preamp/amp does not have a RCA DIGITAL Input?

As for USB out on the BDP-2

The Ars-Sonum Filarmonia is an integrated tube amplifier and has no DAC.

Correct SRB, so going BDP to Ars Sonum wont work.

I think I just have to give up on SACD and the OPPO and save my pennies for the real DAC.

Great news about the USB output on the BDP2. Supposedly its a superior connection on the Clayx Femto.

Thanks all.
