Bryston's First Class Service
It's rare to get more than you expected or paid for, but that's what happened when I sent my 35-year old 3B to Bryston for repair and refurbishment after the right channel died a few months ago.
I bought the amplifier in 1977 after The Audio Critic gave the 4B a glowing review. I compared it with other amplifiers and I like its sound. I've enjoyed it in my system not noticing the gradual deterioration in the sound quality, except for a brief buzzing when I first turned it on, which developed some years ago.
When I got the amp home a week sooner than promised, and turned it on with its new power button, the buzz was gone. The sound was beautiful - warm and alive with deep, taut, full bass. Dennis at Bryston Service and Repair had told me it would sound as good as new or better and it did. When I first talked to him, he thought the buzz was caused by an aging transformer and could not be fixed. The transformers were no longer available. When I called to thank him, he said the buzz might have been due to the aging electronic components, which had been replaced. I enjoyed speaking to someone who knew what he was talking about.
For a reasonable cost of $350 plus shipping, I essentially have a new and improved amplifier in the original cool black industrial rack-mount case with chrome handles. I wasn't listening to my system much in the past few years, choosing my headphones instead. Bryston brought it back to life and then some. It's been a pleasure doing business with them.
