Thanks for the pics... especially the one that shows the back.

I still need some speakers for my master bedroom and I have an odd layout. Even though the speakers will be spaced apart properly, one will be adjacent to a side wall (corner) to the inside of the speaker and no back wall, and the other a back wall and no side wall. Will the bottom porting ease the pain here?

Thanks,
Randog

Edited because it was too damn confusing!

Pirate,

Those speakers sure look purdy! I hope you'll be giving us a full report on what beautiful music they make once broken in. They look smaller than I envisioned. What is the dark base made out of? Did it ship attached to the speaker? If not, how is it attached? Does the base rest on the floor or is it spiked?

:P As I said before , The wife really likes the looks of these. The bases of the speakers are black textured laminate over a 1 inch mdf material. The cabinets themselves float 3/4 of an inch off the bases. This is accomplished by 4 small spacers and screws through the bottoms of the bases and cabinets. This allows for the down fireing ports located on the bottom of the cabinets. They are not shipped with the bottoms on but take only a short ten minutes to install.   They are not spiked. 5 Dime size rubber pads are located on the bottoms.

The bottom ports seem to work well but I still have a HSU subwoofer hooked up because its there

The Nightingales arrived in the early afternoon to my wife’s surprise :o . She had opened the front door to discover a large brown box left by the UPS man.   The box had obviously been mistreated as indicated by the huge split seam down the side.  After rustling the large package into the house she proceeded to unwrap the box and was expecting to see some type of damage. Nothing found she called me at work to explain the above and articulated how nice looking these were going to be :thumb: .

Upon my arrival home I at once put on Diana Krall (Live In Paris) CD and went to assembling the bases. This involves attaching the bases using 4 screws and spacers so the cabinet actually floats above the bases. This permits room for the down firing ports to function properly.

Before I detached the old speakers I put in a little Eagles and Toby Keith to aid for listening evaluation. Hooking up the Nightingales was quick and easy as the new binding posts are large with simple access. I turned off my HSU V-2 subwoofer.
With the Eagles, Hotel California (Hell Freezes Over) cued and anticipation high the play button was pressed………

Ok?????????  Not impressed :? . Yes, they were by some means better sounding than my old speakers but they sounded smaller and thin. I turned up the volume control past my typical listening position and they seemed to improve but still not inspiring. After switching Eagles to Toby Keith I soon become conscious that the bells on the background of the Angry American tract that are very distinct on the old speakers were now almost missing. I switched the sub on but no change.  Next I played the Diana Krall album.  Listening with the volume control at an elevated level more than normal... Diana’s voice was nice but boy did the “S” sounds shriek though the highs on the tweeters :( .

One and a half weeks into break in I had to notify Klaus of my dissatisfaction.  Klaus was very nice and knew from my descriptions that something wasn’t right.  With my Tempest preamp soon to arrive I decided to not send the Nightingales back until I could judge against preamps.  The new Tempest did not make it intact but that’s a different story :banghead: .  Klaus was as confounded as I was. We settled to return both the Nightingales and Tempest for repairs. Klaus requested that I hold off on the returns till He got back from NY.

Now I am not sure what has happened to the Nightingales…  call it “ break-in” or did I have the poles crossed    ? In order to validate that something was wrong with the Tempest  :bawl: I had hooked up the previous speakers and eventually switched back to the Nightingales.  But Now the Nightingales are sounding first-rate. I mean REALLY GOOD! :bounce:

To verify that something had changed I did the speaker assessment again. OH YEAH, Diana Krall is engaging again and so silky in the highs  , The Eagles can crank :guitar:  and make you nearly believe you are at the concert to the point you can tell the difference between the clap of hands and the cheering of the crowd. It doesn’t sound like waves roaring at the ocean anymore. Toby Keith bells are still a slight thin but so are the previous speakers when perched on top of the Nightingales. This tells me the placement of the speakers may be more at fault than the speaker it self.

My wife absolutely loves the Nightingales  . She can’t get over how nice they look and how wonderful her favorite CDs sound. I must concur to both. Klaus knows the Nightingales are staying (at least till the next upgrade, Hehehe :rotflmao: ). The stereo now plays :drums:  all day long when we are home. Each and every CD in our collection is new again and that tells me I have made the right decision to stick with Odyssey and Klaus  !

Pirate,  how are the Nightingales coming along?

Would you mind describing how they sound , now?

I'm considering them for my Living Room Audio/Home Theater system.

How's the Bass on these speakers?   How's the Mid-Range and Highs, now?

Hi Eduardo

Your photos are alright.

Well I have had the Nightingale for a some months now and I must say I am very satisfied with them. The sound is very good, escpecially around the mid and high. Voices sounds very real. (Nils Lofgrens' Live CD are just fantastic over these speakers). The low are as good as you can get with drivers at this size (6"). Not the deepest you can get, but fast and tight.

A very nice thing about these speakers are that they are very easy to set-up, maybe due to the port sitting in the bottom indstead of front or back as normal. You will off course get better sound if you work on the distance to the back- and sidewalls, but that is just a bonus.

Yes you are right there is a Tempest a pair of Mono Extremes, all cabling is Groneberg Quattro Reference... The only not Odyssey/Symphonic Line thing there is my CD an Agile Pace and the Panamax thing... AC in Mexico tends to be a frightning thing.

I'll be honest I have made som test with other brands and work very fine but for my personal tastes the all Odyssey system is the best.

So how are you enjoying the Nightingales?

I'm excited about adding the Tempest to my system.  As well for the Nightingales.

Although,  eventually the Nightingales may end up in a 2nd or 3rd system in the house.

Well, they haven't reached the burning in period Klaus recommended yet but the sound is very good even right out of the box, I missed at that point the 3D sound but now it is more enveloping and open.

I was afraid also about interactions from mid bass/bass  and mids/highs but this is truly a great design it a is kind of stretched down Epiphonies all the benefits of the Epiphonies' sound plus better bass extension.

I am quite happy but still many hours left to conclude the burning period.

I can say that all the waiting had a reward, a big one, AND ALSO A GOOD NOTE: MY GIRLFRIEND SAID "I WANT A PAIR OF THOSE SPEAKERS FOR MY APPARTMENT", she was just joking but I know her and it was only because she liked the speakers very much."

So it won't be difficult to convince the wife about these speakers, they sound lovely and look lovely too.

So you are looking the reflected image/color from the floor on the faceplates.
