I personally would go to your dealer(s)and if their worth their salt they'll let you do a home audition.
I brought home a pair of mag 3.6's and was quite shocked at the difference compared to my box speakers(50a's).
At least with your home you can hear how they react with you and your room, any speaker for  sure.
They would be in your budget 6's,7's,worth a shot and it's free :thumb:.

If you're buying new with a $5K budget consider the Maggie 1.7's at $2K and use the remaining budget for a sub or pair of subs.  Below is a link to a thread on the Planar circle that can give you some ideas on subs.  Although the thread is 3.7 centered the recommendations will do well with the 1.7's as well.  There are suggestions that would fit your budget to buy a pair or if you wanted something like the JL Fathom F110 you could start with one and add the second as budget permits.

If the last octave or so of bass is not important by all means take Drummer's advice and go for the 3.7's.  At $5.5K list price you might be able to find a deal for $5K.

Ask James about the 1.7's,  I think he likes them and if I'm not mistaken I think he has a BP26 and some kind of Bryston amp.

I own Bryston BP-26 and 4B-SST2.
I love my magnepan 3.6 speakers.
The Maggies and Bryston 4B-SST2 are a PERFECT match.
Magnepan speakers are not for everyone. Some folks love them, others have no use for them.
So to help the op realize if he might like them.
Magnepan are wonderful for small group music. jazz Classical small group..choral vocals  As for symphony, hard Rock, they are only OK.
If you want SLAM in your bass, so you feel it physically, then Magnepans are not so great. unless you add in subwoofers.
If you don't want others in the home to be annoyed by the bass travelling through the walls. then that is a big plus for Magnepan.
Magnepan speakers tend to not pass bass through walls. At the sides where to front and rear wave meets and cancels the bass wave. So it seems good around where one listens, but it does not go all through the walls ect. anywhere near as much as cone speakers.

Then dealers. not a lot of maggie dealers, and Magnepan will not drop ship.
I was originally annoyed no Maggie dealer near me, then one local dealer started carrying them. Whoo Hoo problem solved.

For your size room the 3.7 is the ticket. With a 12% discount they are right in your ballpark

Then the WAF. Since I AM the wife, I can have them no problem. They are like big screens. No nearly as ugly as giant box speakers IMO. You shuld ask the wife about them though. I can vouch they are decent appearance for her. Get the white fabric, it is really a light grey/silvery color. The Grey fabric is cool. Guys seem to love the black fabric ones.
IMO they then look to heavy.
Anyway, hope this helps a little.
