STeve: Works great!! Thanks! So is it just basically trial and error until something works?

As much as I enjoy my Kindle Fire, I'm almost wishing I would have waited a bit longer to get an iPad. Last night I was playing around with my iPhone and watching some videos on my Buffalo Bills app. I noticed that same little icon in the lower left of the screen that I see on iTunes when I'm choosing among computer speakers, headphones, AEX, etc. I clicked on it and chose my AEX, and by God I was able to hear the audio streaming through my main headphone rig while watching the video on the iPhone. Some of you guys are thinking I'm probably easily amused and distracted by shiny things at this point, but how cool is this??? Instead of watching Netflix on my Kindle, which I really do enjoy, it would have been even better to have the audio going through my main headphones...

As usual, I just can't get over how Apple always thinks of the small stuff, and also how PERFECTLY everything works together.  :thumb:

Yep, sometimes you need to play around to find something that works.  You basically need a URL that links to a streaming server and not a link to a web stream player application.

I Googled 'WGR 550 stream URL" and one of the links returned was:
WGR 550 Sports Radio
http://www.thestreamcenter.com/search.asp?name=WGR%20550%20Sports%20Radio

There were two links on the page:
32K Stereo
32K Mono

I right clicked on the 32K Stereo link, selected Properties and copied the URL:
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WGRAM.AAC.pls

When I added that to iTunes, nothing happened.  It did not appear in the Library or in the Recently Added playlist, nor did it create an Internet Songs playlist.  (likely because of the double file extension)

I then right clicked on the 32K Mono link, selected Properties and copied the URL:
http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WGRAM.pls

When I added that one to iTunes, it created an Internet Songs playlist and started playing.  Inspecting the URL (Get Info) revealed that iTunes had modified the URL to:
http://6693.live.streamtheworld.com:80/WGRAM_SC

Thanks for that, Steve...that explains why I wasn't having much success at first.

Going to add a few more to the mix...this is fun  :thumb:

Can anybody recommend some good classic jazz stations to add to my repertoire to supplement KUWL (I like almost everything they play but would like a few extra options)? Also seem to be broadening my tastes a bit and getting into chamber music, mostly modern stuff like Meridian Arts Ensemble (brass group) and Turtle Island Quartet (strings). MAE actually does a little of everything, from Renaissance music to Frank Zappa. Recommendations welcome.

Radio Swiss Jazz (www.radioswissjazz.ch) has a nice repetoire of mainstream jazz and jazz/blues with an American and European artist mix.  You can see a long playlist on the main page and you can also open up a song ticker window that displays previous song, current song and next song and dynamically updates.  With either list you can click on a song to get detailed album and musician information.

There is a 64kbps AAC+ stream that sounds as good or better than the 128kbps MP3 stream.

Radio Swiss Jazz and KUWL Jazz Wyoming (who'da thunk it?) make up the bulk of my Internet Radio jazz listening.

I like WNNO Jazz- New Orleans. Allot of classics mixed in with some lesser known gems.
It somehow captures that cool New Orleans vibe.

A recent station I have found and love is KVMR FM89.5 Nevada City. A deserty mix of Outlaw Country with funky alt country. I have discovered some great songwriters from this station. Very liberal jocks with a quirky western bent.

I listen to WNCW 88.7 to get my fix of  Appalachian music. More alt country than bluegrass, but a good mix of both. This area has a very fertile musical heritage and is putting out some of the best young talent in any musical genre.  They play a great mix of new music, older music and has some great shows on Sat morning (jazz), sat night (outlaw alt) sunday starts out with old school gospel bluegrass then has a irish show.

I am looking for a very laid backed Hawaiian or maybe Southern Californian station that plays minimalist songs. Something that has that local beach/island cool ambiance.

i love finding stations whose playlist matches the local social environment. I suppose it makes me feel more worldly (by osmosis).

WRTI and WBGO are awesome and while they are not technically jazz stations Jazz Set and Jazz at Lincoln Center have great jazz programs as well.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will check them out. I actually heard part of Jazz At Lincoln Center on KUWL the other night; they are the only 256K mp3 jazz stream I have found. AAC streams seem much less common than mp3.

lokie- I assume you meant WWNO. Good find. Noticed there that "Jazzworks with Bob Studebaker" is carried on KUWL also. (I also note your avatar refers to an all time great album.) srb, I like that Swiss station... it is now on my iphone and in my itunes library (which should have an easier way to save streams; the only way I have found is to open the url from the Advanced menu and then go to the 'recently added' playlist and add it from there to my 'jazz radio' playlist. Looking into Radium and Snowtape.
