The halogen might be a warmer color but the LED version has the advantage of not needing bulb replacements. I don't think the dimmer will be a noise issue due to the low power of these lights. If it is you'll know it immediately from the audible buzz coming from your speakers. Scott F.,You are thinking of a light source to check the table's speed accuracy. That would be a fluorescent bulb, I use a small automotive drop light with my strobe reference disc.

I'm using the clip on version of this lamp for my vinyl inspection rigVery effective Plenty of light and it doesn't get too hotTomS desk lamp version looks a lot neater though

Hi Paul this a battery powered LED light mounted to my ceiling. I think I paid around $7 for it.It has a high & low setting. Sorry for the terrible pic.Needless to say I have a low ceiling............Bill
