Stepped Attenuator for a 24v Aikido?
« on: 18 Jan 2012, 03:05 am »
Hey Guys

What value stepped attenuator should I use for my 24v Aikido preamp?  I'm thinking about adding some gain to my F3 (it only has 12.5db of gain) so I can better match it with the other two amps in my 3-way active setup.  The F3 has only 10k input impedance.

I was cruising ebay and there seems to be some pretty good attenuator deals out of Hong Kong.

I'm trying to sell the F3 and the Aikido, but if I can make the combo work in my setup, I might just keep them both.

Thanks,
Jim

Anything from 10 to 100k should be fine. I'm assuming the attenuator will be on the input to the Aikido. I'm not entirely sure why you need it though.

I believe the gain on the 24v Aikido is ~15db, no attenuator.  With the F3 at 12.5db, the combo would be a little "hot" relative to my other two amps.

I'd rather attenuate in the analog domain rather the digital, if possible.

Make sense?
