BDP-1 - Network Share Mount Question
« on: 14 Jan 2012, 02:51 am »
Since the BDP-1 runs on the Linux operating system, can I do the following:

1. SSH into the unit and gain root access?
2. Mount a network share?

Thanks!

1) ssh root@bryston-bpd-1.local  .. will let you guess the password :)..
2) Don't believe so, the is no mount.smbfs.. Maybe a NFS fileshare....

It's not a big deal though, attach a HDD and mount the BDP to your computer.

That is not what I am trying to do. I want to mount a network share FROM the BDP-1.

Short answer No, longer answer Yes (and might void the warranty) but your command line mojo needs to be strong. (as in if you don't know how to do it, the BDP shouldn't be your playground)

I trust my risk with the command line... 20 years with Unix / Linux may help. Which flavor of Linux runs on the BDP-1? Is there a way to run a script or to add a package? DO you know if the file system is set to read only?

Thanks!

With 20 years of experience, then just go peek inside :) ..   Debian (or voyager mpd derivative), the image is RO, you can make changes but is lost on next reboot.

Just noting for clarity, Voyage is Debian based as well.

The screenshot in the above referenced topic indicates Voyage kernel... Also a Debian derivative but it certainly seems as though Bryston started with Voyage to me.

Yes the very early few were Voyage but switched within the first couple of months.
