finally ordered some cookware today. i was looking at cuisinart http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-MCP-12-MultiClad-Stainless-12-Piece/dp/B0007KQZWU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324280728&sr=8-2
 but ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/Cooks-Standard-Multi-Ply-Stainless-Steel-10-Piece/dp/B00421AYJK/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1324280808&sr=8-8
i can add their 5 qt. covered saute pan later but might get their covered wok first.

All Clad seems to be the brand to compare Stainless to and these seem very comparable. Costco has a nice set similar to this that I almost bought. Let us know what you think after using them a bit.

They look pretty good and the reviews are all positive, except for a few people who don't seem to understand that SS is not teflon, regardless of brand.

I like the look of the handles, they appear large and easy to grip. Other than price, that's my only real complaint against All-Clad; I hate their handles. Other things to look for is that there is good space at the bottom of the fry & saute pans. Some nominally 12" pans have 10" or less at the bottom, so the actual cooking area is much less. These also have a rim, something else I miss on All-Clad pans.

Potential problems to keep an eye open for are uneven heating or hot spots, loosening handles and warping of the pans or lids.

We have the "Wolfgang Puck" set from Sam's Club and to be honest, I have loved them. I didn't by them for the name and honestly don't care. I just have found them well worth the $99 or so. I would rather have a second set over a more expensive  brand set.

was looking at those at sams but can tell the cuisinart set at $149 at sams was better quality and some complained of the pucks leaking.
will have to get something for eggs and cheese, anyone looked at the nanoceramic pans?

Shrug, I have never had any issues. Perhaps it was a one time issue. Good luck in your search tho :)

Just get all-clad.  Badass pots/pans, American made, and absolutely sterling customer service if you ever have a problem with any of their pans.  For example, I noticed that one of my old 10" frying pans was not level.  Not sure if it was always a bit off kilter, or if I did something to warp it.  I sent it back to all-clad to inspect and repair.  2 weeks later I did not have a fixed pan.  I had a brand new pan that they replaced for free.  D@mn!

We purchased the Cuisinart Multiclad cookware about 8 years ago and it's great. Since that time, they have been redesigned with nicer handles. One thing I learned while searching for quality cookware is to buy the best because you'll likely use it for the rest of your life. I also have a couple of All Clad pans and they are heavier compared to the Cuisinart Multiclad, but I can't tell a difference in performance.  However, if I were a serious cook, I'd purchase All Clad or Viking cookware.

This is slightly off topic, but we went through several high quality teflon pans until we realized that an iron skillet is the best way to go for virtual non-stick cooking, as long as you follow the instructions for proper care and cleaning.

Paderno. Made in Canada and better than All Clad; check out their Fusion line. Also, keep an eye out for their sale (3-4 times/yr). This sales are huge $1400-->$350
