KWI 200 Beta Tester Feedback and Opinions Welcome!
« on: 19 Oct 2011, 07:44 pm »
I have a few beta units in the field now and some information is coming in and I would appreciate opinions from those willing to comment.

1) When unit is powered on, do you want the volume to be where you left it?  I.e. at '20', '50', or whatever volume level you were listening when you shut it off, or at '0'?

2) When u nit is powered on, do you want it to default to inut number one = 'cd', or to the last input selected?

Opinions welcome!

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

As a person who has one of the show samples "on the way" . . . I'm inclined to go with "0" and definitely "Last Input".

for me it would be just as it was when I turned it off.

OK, so I am getting a general consensus about input being kept in memory - i.e. same as when turned off.

RE volume, if we don't leave it at zero, it would start out at say '10', as an option, rather than exactly where it was when it was turned off.  Because it is a numerical display, you can easily put it back exactly where it was before.

Thanks,

Dan

I believe that we will hav the volume reset to zero, but will retain the last input in memory.  Further input however is still welcome.

Thanks,

Dan

Best option is to make both programmable by the user using the remote and setting a preset volume for each input. If that can't be done, better option would be to set it to '0' because, if the amp was switched off after a night of partying, if not by you but your kid, (I won't let that happen but many may) the resultant sound on when you switch on the amp next would be definitely be uncomfortable to your ears.

With regard to retaining the last input or reverting to a default input, last input would be ideal I guess.

P.S. There seems to be some mistake in projecting the power ratings in your website here: http://www.modwright.com/products/kwi-200.php

It says:
200W 8 ohms (.06% THD)
400W 8 ohms (.06% THD)

Thanks for pointing out the typ on our website.  It also made its way into the printed literature for marketing  :duh:.

I have decided that the unit will default to the last selected input and volume will reset to zero at startup.

The exception to this being the optional phono and DAC upgrades will have different gain settings, in code, when selected.  d1, d2 will be for DAC RCA and USB inputs and P1, P2 will be for MM and MC phono input with different gains of course.

Thanks!

Dan, any updated timeline on the DAC or Phono upgrades?  Or pricing?  Thanks.

Good choice there Dan. Sorry about the typo. I wish I had seen the thread when it was started.

No worries.  I have corrected all typos on the site for the KWI 200 now, I believe.

I have a press release that will go live on the site, ideally today, but Monday at the latest, about the KWI 200.

We are very busy building KWI 200's that are travelling to:
U.S.
Norway
Singapore
Vietnam
HK/China
France
Australia
Netherlands
UK

It has turned out very well!  I am excited about what we have been able to produce for a $5K US price-point in a 200W high-current (1.5KVA! power transformer) design with optional DAC and Phono upgrades.

Take care,

Dan

All the best Dan. Are these being shipped to dealers or customers?

Most are being shipped to dealers.  We did sell a couple of show demo's from the CO show.  Please contact me directly and I can direct you to our nearest dealer.  If you are outside of the U.S., then we do ship directly to customers in countries for which we DO NOT have distribution.

Thanks,

Dan
