That's funny. Chokes are the main reason I grabbed a Schiit Mjolnir 3 last week.

Wow I just checked that out for the first time.  Now they just need a DAC with chokes....

Well... this year is starting off with a bang.  Yesterday I secured some 96dB line array speakers.  82 drivers total.  Any guesses what they are?  I should have them soon.

Also, I recently got back my Ayre Acoustics MX-R Twenty amps.  AWESOME!  Very happy with them and all of my gear now.  These speakers... 96dB...

Hey, I have a legitimate excuse for a low powered amp!!!!  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I moved away from my Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 to a Galion TS120SE.  My Lyngdorf is my punt integrated when I am just tired of it all and just want to play music.  The TS120SE is a bit tedious as are all tube amps.  I don't have all the convenience of the 3400 but the sound with these tubes is almost incomparable.  I also got a Holo Spring 3 KTE.  There is so much holography and depth going on.  The last tube integrated I had was a loaded LTA Z40+.  I much prefer this now.

The thing that is a slight annoyance is that we use this system for the central A/V 2.1 setup of the house with my Lundy built NX-Studios and Rythmik F18 sub.  I stream all day with tubes and I haven't completely settled in to the feeling.  I use to the leave the Lyngdorf on all the time.  I turn this off and on way more.  I figure at this rate a new set of tubes would be needed about every 1.25-1.5 years.  I am good with that.  I usually have the Galion set to AB for daily streaming and JRiver movie playback.  I set to Class A for focused music listening and this combination punches way above it's weight as they say.

Danny inspired me to reach out to Thomas of Galion and it has been nothing but a pleasure dealing with him.

I find the combination with my NX-Studio to be one of the most compelling system setups I have owned...and I have had WAY more money into my system in years past.  The synergy puts a smile on my face every night.

I went ahead and took a chance on the Epiphany 20/21 speakers Danny has.  They will be here "soon".

Brand new enclosures in crates.  They look just like this... and I am really excited.  It's funny the way things work out. :thumb:

It will be interesting to hear these with different amps... high sensitivity speakers... but a bunch of drivers too.

Schiit is closing out a little "Rekkr" amp with only a few watts.  I got a pair of them recently, figured they would work great for attaching directly to garage speakers, testing stuff... whatever.  I haven't played with them yet but may tomorrow.  They should be handy for testing drivers and it will be a hoot to hookup to these speakers.  They are small little things.

I think these Gjallahorn are interesting too:  https://www.schiit.com/products/gjallarhorn

I have a very large room... 32' deep x 31" at its widest... great room / dining room / large kitchen occupying same airspace... 12' ceilings.  Perfect for NX-Treme, but I have no front wall space - which has been the rub.  These Epiphany speakers are just plain old box speakers... should work out OK, I guess.  :thumb:

It was interesting talking to Danny about this kind of speaker and why there aren't more "Line Array" type speakers.  Besides the expense, there is just a lot to manage in every way.

I think Danny's amps are 60w/channel, and those power his NX-Treme with complete ease.  I am looking forward to playing with some cool little amps.  I think it will be something to swap back in my Joule Electra VZN-80 OTL tube amp... OTL tube setup to those drivers @ 80w/channel.

Now THAT should be "musical"...

Congrats on the new monsters!!!

Try to find a good push-pull EL84 amp I think you will love the sound of it on those speakers.

If you’d like an excellent low-powered amp, buy and build up a Nelson Pass-designed Amp Camp amp available as a kit only about $350 from the DIY Audio store. All Class-A and designed by the man himself, “Papa”, Nelson Pass. 8 Wpc.
If you up build two of them for all of about $700, you can run them bridged monos using XLR connections with 15 Wpc output. They sound superb, as you might expect from any amp Nelson designs.

I would like to hear the Music Reference RM-9 one day.  That is EL-34 tubes, and supposed to be a really good amp by Roger Modjeski.

Thanks Stephen.  Turns out I have a pair of those and they were interesting.  I need to get them listed for sale along with several other things.

I had the Rekkr as my office amp for a bit playing the lgk 2.1s. Even at pretty low volumes I just could not get into liking the sound. I actually liked my previous office amp, some Fosi, better.

I now have that Gjallahorn and very happy with that sound.

Great, I'll just remind myself they are for bolting to small speakers in the garage and I'm sure I'll love them!  That's very inefficient speakers for very low watts though, right?

The Gjallahorn looks like a nice little amp.  And then that's what happens... get a pair of those, needs regular power cord, where am I going to use them if "office or garage" are the thing.

Then I end up with some nice gear that sits, then I sell it to buy more.  This is normal. :green:

Ah, cool. Yes, they are pretty interesting amps, aren't they?

Cheers.
