Welcome Charlie. For us to make recommendations we need a feel for what tickles your fancy. 'Classic jazz', in it's many varieties. Modern Jazz, Fusion, ..... If you page thru this thread you'll get pretty fair idea of all your options. Label-wise for quality in 'newer' stuff (70s to current) check out ECM, wide variety of artists, and always well recorded. There are new sets of 7 or 8 albums by classic artists, remastered (well I might add), that are great deals for the cost. An example -

There are enough varied tastes here to make numerous recommendations depending on what you are looking for. Happy hunting.  :thumb:

If this album were a movie, it would be "Hard to Kill" with Steven Segal.

Not even McLaughlin could pull off this album cover, and he was on Bitches Brew!

Hey Charlie, what Dent said and this mutha is a must . . Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers Live at Keystone 3.  A great intro to young turks at the time Wynton and Branford Marsalis.  It's on the Concord Jazz label and is superbly in-the-club recorded.  Been to the club more than once back in the day.  If you don't know, Blakey's Jazz Messengers was a proving ground for many young players who went on to great careers.  Fasten your seatbelt.  On second thought do not fasten your seat belt.  Enjoy the flight.
