I own the A500SE, slightly above $5k limit.  But have also owned the JBL 708P, a wonderful active 2-way using an 8 inch woofer that is under $4k.

Actives are very dynamic and produce deep/full bass for the given cabinet size.  They can be equipped with EQ and other niceties. For instance the A500SE (an average sized monitor) are rated 25-40,000Hz +/- 1.5 dB.

Not to derail this thread. Where did you purchase the A500SE, as I can't seem to find a US dealer.

Only available online, although they have a U.S. based warehouse.  Note that the A500SE was a limited production product that is sold out now.  The replacement is the A10, but lacks the rear Purifi mid/woofer.  Go to Buchardtaudio.com.

When built from a kit, my LS9's are in the $5000 range.  There are few better.

I think you win.  But those aren’t available anymore are they?

Also avoid SS amps with horn drivers or speakers.

They dont even rec a Class A SS amp, by its site I can only believe they hate hi-fi audio and Stereo small tube amps and are steering his products where the market is Home Theater, Lifestyle, powered speakers, outdoor speakers, computer speakers, Bluetooth, tabletop and in wall speakers, they have all the stuff.

But you can use a movie receiver no prob, when you get hearing fatigue you turn off the system and go for a coffee.

What about using a better integrated amplifier?

It can works, always liked low power FET amps in the English style as Rega, usually they have a musical sound.

I've owned two pair of tiny Temple Audio 70 watt mono-blocks from England and loved them.

I'm presently listening to the Fyne 501SP and am pretty impressed.
I wasn't sure they would have the umph for my room and the Magnesium
tweeter was a God I hope they settle down (which they did). The speaker
is pretty danged good in both departments. I'm not able to use bookshelf so the tower was a must.
