Interesting question. One I can't really answer on experience since I never used those macro filter things.

But my guess is that it would be the same, because we are dealing with the physics of how light is refracted through a lens system.

I would suspect the image may not be as sharp.....considering that true macro/micro lenses are designed for close up work and those attachments are cheap, but DOF.....probably the same.

Why not rent a macro and do some test?

I have not worked with such device.
But I think you may loose about  2 f-stop worth of light value from the original lens.

Check with the manufacturer.
