Love this picture food thread.  Are we well-rounded audiophiles.. or what!

Earlier this year I built a stand for my Martin Logan 4-Theater center channel. We started with a 4x18x46 inch block of Aluminum. The beginning weight was 185 lbs and the material cost was $650.

Most of the milling was done using a Daewoo 4020 CNC.

Making sure we have form fit and function.
Our business is Aerospace manufacturing and we can hold tolerances to 0.0001 inch however the crew was able to relax and use crude measurements for this project.

Here is the stand and center speaker in action. I use a dbx driverack 260 and 2 dbx 2231 graphic equalizers to manage the crossovers and smooth out the sound. The center is powered by a 4B-SST and a 6B-SST. I'm currently using only 2 of the channels on the 6B. Since the speakers are 4 Ohms that means I'm getting a 500x4 = 2000 watts of Bryston power. The center is 46 inches high, 43 inches wide 16 inches deep and weighs 225 lbs.

Regards,
Gary

GaryArthur, that's just awesome!

My dad has an old M head Bridgeport mill that I've used a little bit.  Just the size of the aluminum block is impressive and the CNC work is just beautiful.

Very nice system, as well.

Greetings GaryArthur   :D

That is just simply awesome   :thumb:

I would like to have CNC capability at home one day, maybe along the lines of a Tormach machine or retro fitted vertical mill.

Be well...

Hey Gary - I found this to be very interesting in a little bit of a de ja vous type of way.  A couple of years ago I came across a guy who was just starting to sell machined brass and aluminum turntable centre weights/clamps.  I decided to buy one and went directly to the factory which is just North of Toronto in Newmarket.  It turned out that they were an aerospace part manufacturer that decided to fill up some of their free time (given cut-back in the industry) by following the passion of the owner i.e. audio and particularly analogue.  They now manufacture not only turntable weight but some very expensive turntables.  The company is TT Weights - not sure if you know their name from the industry.

Just thought it was interesting, given you company and your hobby.

Laundrew "kicks the tires" of a 1950's Van Norman Number 12 milling machine - will he be weak and give this machine a good home? Please excuse the poor photograph
