Output Of BP-6
« on: 28 Dec 2008, 02:57 pm »
I have had my BP-6 installed for a couple of days now and have noticed that I have to turn the volume control quite a bit higher to obtain the same volume levels as my previous pre-amp.  Does this have something to do with the output curve???  More after 12 O'clock and less before that???  Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

The BP6 volume control is linear so it will operate differently than some as some preamps have more gain at the lower settings. The BP6 runs Class A so the volume control is an attenuator -- it turns the gain down not up. Normal listening should be about 10 oclock to 1 oclock.

I've wondered about this too...and when you say normal listening James, are you talking about when playing cd or lp?

Hi Dave,

LP's usually have less gain so the volume control would be higher than with CD Players where the typical output is 2 volts or more.
