Winamp has infinite plug-ins which you can download that makes music listening a lot easier.

Foobar2000, well that can play multiple formats.

WMP, well, bad audio, so-so video....hmmm

What do the audiophiles say?

foobar2k with ASIO out plugin ;-)

try it for yourself, winamp etc sound very different indeed - less dynamic, more "compression" (dunno if that would a be an accurate description or not...) anyway, these are all free downloads, so just grab em and play around and settle on the one you prefer the sound of  8)

I like WMP, but it is not designed with our needs in mind.

Foobar2K owns. . .  It's not pretty, and it's not the easiest to configure.  But once it's right, it is by far the best sounding player.

Foobar2k with Kernel Streaming is the best sounding I've heard, and I play Flac files directly out of it.  And with the plug-ins, you can make it look and act however you'd like.  I've got mine set up with a decent-looking GUI.  I'll add a screenshot later ( like anyone cares).

I would really like to see a good gui setup for foobar.  Infact, if they could make it utilize winamp skins, I'd switch and never look back...

Not long ago I found a small site, which had some plug-ins that could do this, calls Looks or something.

Look for it in Google

This is the one I've been using lately.  Azrael got me started on this.  He documents it pretty well.....http://neksus.dk/foobar/azrael.html

Hmm. . So Ted. . . This thing has ALL of your files in one playlist?

Doesn't that eat up RAM?

Looks COOL though!

Thx,

B

No.  Those are separate playlists tabbed above.  I have playlists by artist, that's all.  The playlists will show up in a sidebar, if needed, as well.  I have that turned off.  Once my artist list gets bigger (say 2x)  I will use that, cuz the real estate that the tabs will use may get to be too much.

For Beatles, I split that up into 5 or so playlists (early, prime, mono, compilations, Anthology, EP collection).

Umm.  Ted, what are the specific steps to turn my Foobar screen into this?

On that website, I can't seem to zero in on one button that'll download this..

Well, first off, this isn't a one-button download kind of thing.  There are a few plug-ins (foo_ui_columns being the foundation), and a little tweaking to the preferences.  I'll try and see if I can recreate the process and put a post together today or tmrw.  In the meantime, do a search in foobar's forum on hydrogenaudio.org and look for things like "skins".  You'll find azrael's stuff, and some button images that I ended up using, at least.

Edit: (Doing this on the fly to get you something)
Here is a decent url to get you started
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=175690
(not sure if the links in this post are up to date, but they look ok; but if not hydrogenaudio will have them somewhere)
Go to the #8 post by acedriver that says this:
******************************************
"Download Column UI, extract the contents of the zip file into your foobar/components directory.

Download Azrael config from this page. Extract the file into your folder of choice, preferably the foobar folder. For more Azrael color config go to Azrael documentation page.

Run foobar, go to its preferences, and select ColumnsUI as the "User Interface Module" under the "Display" section in the options window. Restart foobar.

Go to preferences > Display > ColumnsUI" subsection, select "import" from that screen and import Azrael.

Once that is imported change the playlist and statusbar fonts found on the same screen (Display -> ColumnsUI). Set them to Lucida Grande Unicode.

For custom button, get it from here. Change it in Display -> ColumnsUI > select "Use custom buttons"."
*******************************************

PM me if you can't find the configs.  I currently use one of Plisk's, not Azrael's.

Thanks Ted!  You've been sandbagging us!

It's time to admit that I just now looked at your avatar closely and realized what that is.  I always thought it was an ice cream sundae.
