$700 Record Vacuum for $10?
« on: 3 Feb 2022, 03:41 am »
Do you own a Dyson vacuum?

This device plugs into your vacuum - and vacuums your vinyl!

I was looking at $700+ devices. I looked at how they work and discovered that they are just glorified vacuum cleaners.

This works great! A HUGE difference - and it's only $10 on Amazon.

Now use the money you saved for an upgrade!

Hi bkatbamna,

The right end (from the picture,) connects to your Dyson.

The left end has an anti-static type covering over the vacuum slit/hole.

Looks like it would be almost impossible to hold it steady enough to get a vacuum across the whole record, and even more impossible to hold it while the record rotated.

If you want clean records, buy or build an ultrasonic.

Or at least buy a vacuum based machine that's actually designed to properly clean records. I think you'll find the Record Doctor VI is cheaper than a Dyson. But it won't vacuum your carpet of course.

I use my ordinary old Sears  vacuum with brush attachment to finish dry my records. I wash them in the kitchen sink. pat dry with paper towel then use the brush vacuum attachment to finish-suck the water from the grooves.
I think the fact of it being inexpensive violates some "Audiophile' fantasies.
Get over it.
Works great.

It would be crazy to buy a vacuum cleaner just to use the attachment.  It only makes sense for someone like me who already bought the wife a Dyson for our anniversary a few years ago.

Vacuum systems do work great.  I've used a basic one for years.  But ultrasonics work considerably better, and they don't have to be expensive.  Use the two together, the ultrasonic to clean and the vacuum to dry, and I think your getting vinyl about as dust/dirt free as you can get.

Thanks firewall for the suggestion. I am not sure of your experience but normal record cleaners are able to vacuum up a cleaning solution off the record. As in fluid. As in WET.

I am positive that the attachment is only designed for dry vacuuming. Vacuuming up moisture in your Dyson will definitely void the warranty.

I know you probably know this but just wanted to make sure.
