We were asked about the cost for fewer than 5 channels, like a 4-CHerry or 3-CHerry....

Looks like we will be lowering the price by $100 per uninstalled channel.  The uninstalled channels will be covered by "vanity plates" on the back panel.

Not sure if this will be the same for any specials (upcoming pre-order special, possibly this month), but for now, as a difference from the list price of $2990 for the standard (non-KING) 5-CHerry, this is the plan.  The KING version adds a brushed aluminum faceplate and soldered Premium Gold WBT binding posts ($800 more).

Thanks to Michael B for the question.  The 4-CHerry would be a candidate for bi-amping a stereo pair or use of active crossovers.

Where the 5-CHerry comes from....

We ran a Kickstarter project to develop a"mini MEGA" amplifier early this year.  During this project we decided to change the name to "mini Cherry" because it was more like the Cherry Maraschino amplifier series than the Cherry MEGAschino amplifier series.  It also made use of our Cherry Maraschino Modules which are currently not used in any Maraschino products.  The "mini Cherry" was essentially a two channel Maraschino, non-integrated.  This is comparable to a Stereo Maraschino (STM) in features and power output.  We were then encouraged by customers to make a five channel version of the "mini Cherry" amp.  When we worked out the details (new motherboard, new enclosure, new transformer) we found that we could provide better specifications with a different topology, using Maraschino Monoblock boards (!) and our 60V 1kW power supply.  We combined this with a new enclosure design, similar to the MEGAschino, to make the 5-CHerry, which can be configured as a 2-CHerry, 3-CHerry, 4-CHerry, or 5-CHerry.  Total power output is still 1000W regardless of the number of channels.  So power output for a two channel version is the same as a KING Stereo Maraschino (400Wpc into 4Ω).  There are two versions of the 5-CHerry, standard and KING.  The KING version adds a fancy brushed aluminum faceplate, Gold WBT binding posts, and double rail capacitance on all channels.  Now you can enjoy that Sweet Cherry Sound in YOUR home theater system.  The 5-CHerry is capable of powering even large home theater systems with ease as well as giving you pristine two channel playback performance!

Two questions:

1.  What is the gain  for the 2-cherry and voltage
     needed to achieve full power?

2.  What is the advantage of the king version
     double rail capacitance?

Two questions:

1.  What is the gain  for the 2-cherry and voltage
     needed to achieve full power?

2.  What is the advantage of the king version
     double rail capacitance?

answers:

1. More specifications....

Gain: 22dB
SNR: 118dB
THD+N: 0.002%
Channel Separation; >100dB
Size: 4" x 5" x 2.5"
Weight (preliminary):
    18 lbs (standard version)
    21 lbs (KING version)
Size:
    14.2" x 10.3" x 4.6" (standard version)
    17.0" x 10.1" x 4.5" (KING version)
Power Efficiency: 96%
Output Impedance: <0.02Ω
Sensitivity: 3.1Vin for 400W into 4Ω
Input Impedance: 20 kΩ true balanced
Frequency Response: 0 Hz to >100 kHz
Output Power per channel:
    200Wpc into 8Ω
    400Wpc into 4Ω
    800Wpc into 2Ω
    1000W max total output
Protection:
    Thermal
    Current
    Voltage
    Auto-Recovery
AC Power Consumption, all channels in idle: 40W
AC Power Consumption, all channels in sleep mode: 14W
AC MAINS options (based on shipping destination):
    100-130VAC
    200-250VAC

2. Double rail caps provide lower THD+N in the 10Hz-100Hz range and more powerful transient peaks.  The KING version also has a pretty faceplate for the signature Cherry look ....and nicer binding posts (same as used on the Cherry MEGA).

Ok...a few more questions regarding the 2-cherry version....

What is sleep mode…does it shut off completely or just go into an idle (in Florida, with all the lightning, it is usually preferable to power things down to be completely safe)

Is there a power on and power off relay/delay of a few seconds or is the power instant on instant off (to try to prevent the aggravating thumps)

Is there an option for the power switch on the front

Is there a 12v trigger

What color is the standard case and the king version case

Sleep mode shuts off the output stage of the amplifier after 8 minutes of quiet and turns it back on when audio is detected.  AC power consumption is about 3 Watts per channel during sleep and about 8 Watts per channel during idle.  This is significantly more than typical Class-D amps because Cherry amps run much faster.

The 5-CHerry, 4-CHerry, 3-CHerry, and 2-CHerry have channel independent sleep mode.  For example, if you're listening to 2-channel audio on a 5.1-channel system through a 5-CHerry, the center and surrounds will sleep while left/right runs automatically.  Sleep mode also alleviates the need for a remote trigger (typ 12V), although the Cherry MEGA has both.

There's also a power switch on the back, so you can turn it off completely.  Based on your input, we might put the switch on the front for the standard version in the future.  Maybe even the KING, although that would require a new faceplate design.  So far, it's always on the back, but easily accessible from over the top, and the amp is less than 9"deep.

After switching on, there is a two second inrush prevention delay, then a one second amp startup delay.  On/off/sleep transition quietly.

The enclosure is black, and the KING version can have a black or red faceplate.  We might offer silver faceplates again someday soon.

Yes, the owner of Selah Audio. I had contacted another company about Axpona but the owner wasn't very responsive and the time frame for an answer was limited. Thanks for your kind comment - I have sent you an e-mail.

Not that you guys asked my opinion….but…

If you look at what the online magazines have to say after each of the big shows…it is often other Audio Circle guys like Salk and VanAlstine…or Spatial Audio and Vinie Rossi that get together and end up being the “surprise” hits of the show.

Both DAC and Selah have strong followings and great reputations….YES, you should get together for one of the major shows!

Take a look at our AXPONA 2019 post.  JTR's award winning speakers will be powered by Cherry Amps.  Spatial will probably be using Golden Cherry amps in their room as well.  There may be a few more Cherry Amps at the show, but we can't say for sure until the first day.  Thanks.

Tommy,

Can the x-Cherry have the "no sleep" mod done that the maraschino monos can or have the on/auto/off sleep control of the STM for folks using high sensitivity speakers and low volume listening, as noted in the description of the "no sleep" mod on your website?

Thanks!
