I have a Coincident Tube Line Stage which sounds great. I'd like to upgrade the volume pots. If anyone has had this done I'd appreciate a response.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

What’s wrong with the volume pot that came with it?

A stepped attenuator with quality resistors almost always sounds better than a potentiometer.
Gold Point is among the best, if you don't need remote control.
Intact Audio autoformer attenuators are possibly even better.
Alps makes good pots, but that's probably what you have. TKD pots are excellent, but honestly I don't know how they compare to Alps' best.
Various quality pots from good British seller.

thank you for the responses. Spoke w/ Israel at Coincident and he thinks one of the volume controls are faulty. I'd like to get them both replaced and working properly. I do enjoy the sound of this preamp.

Good luck.  Slagle's autoformers crush the competition hands down.

And circle sponsor Tortuga Audio just introduced a version of their LDR volume control that is specifically made to replace existing controls.  Not cheap, but highest sound quality.

Following a suggestion form Rollo, I recently swapped my pots with TDK 2500 and they are most excellent!
Michael Percy sells them
