NEW NX-Bravo speaker - Great Job Hobbs!
« on: 12 Sep 2024, 02:53 pm »
Very excited to see the Neo 3 tweeter in more offerings!  When I visited GR in March, it was more than clear to me that Hobbs is as passionate about our shared hobby as anyone on the planet.  I bet he is super proud of how this speaker turned out.  Can't wait to hear it!

That waveguide is really, really cool. I just finished building my NX Studios yesterday! Bah, I thought I was gonna be free from FOMO for a while... !  :duh:

Look what I found...  :green:

https://gr-research.com/product/nx-bravo-kit/

It's too bad Hobbs has to sleep at the shop now to print waveguides.  Who the heck crosses a tweeter at 1,000hz?  Oh, Hobbs says to Danny "Please hold my beer".   Ribbon tweeter?... yeah, almost like a "ribbon midrange" too!

That waveguide and back cup could be the catalyst for some very compelling ideas... and a lot of fun.  People are going to be able to have incredible sound for not a lot of money.

Hobbs/Danny, what about making the stl file available so people can print the waveguide themselves? If not, I recommend a Bambu Lab P1S or X1 Carbon to print them, you will save a lot more time.

I've already mentioned that as an option on the product description, and I may make it an option directly on the product page.

The plan is to order the P1P, as I don't plan to print in anything other than PLA, so the side walls of the P1S and extra features of X1C aren't really of much use to me, unless I was looking to print high-temperature filaments, but it should cut printing times in half over my current modified Creality Ender 3.

Sorry Hobbs, I just noticed you mentioned that on the website and the P1P will certainly get the job done.

This would be an awesome idea for your designs that require a small wave guide.  Given we are DIY people, a lot of us either have a 3D printer or we have access to one.

Hobbs, will your waveguide / cup work for the M165 driver as well, and pretty much any 5.5"-6.5" driver?  Not sure if there is a voice coil depth difference that makes a different waveguide necessary.

It should be able to work quite well with any driver you want to pair it with.

The Neo 10 is a different animal altogether, as it's more of a midrange driver than a tweeter.
The only driver we've seen that comes close is the New Radian LM10

Looking at those measurements and after living with what I have and knowing its measurements... your little speaker may already be an Instant Classic.

Is that the best spectral decay you or Danny have ever seen from a box speaker?

What about the 10" planar PS Audio is using? Externally at least it looks very similar to the Neo 10.

Gotcha

Point being , with the WG neo 3 you have a tweeter that can cross very low, that seemed to be lacking after the BG went out of production. Fun with speaker design!
