Timepiece 2.1 or 3.0 Proper height
« on: 11 Dec 2007, 05:49 pm »
Does anyone have a feel for the proper stand/tweeter height for these speakers?
Have you ever inverted for woofer on top and tweeter lower?

RodMCV:

For the Mini's, Bob recommended stands that place your ear midway between the woofer and tweeter.  It seems to work really well.  I haven't inverted them though.  May or may not help with the 2.1's or 3.0's, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

I found this positioning to work well with the 2.0's. They are not as picky as some loudspeakers as per height requirements. "Ear level" is the key.

I tried the 2.1's a various heights between 18"-26" (stands) and ended up favoring the Moooi Corks at 26".  There was very little difference once I got the tweeter to ear level and above.

Thanks Guys!

Is that a cork 26" tall stand?
What other types have people used?

I have a pair of Timepiece 2.1's and I used adjustable stands I purchased from Core Furniture (www.corefurniture.com).

 Great Ken,

   What height do you use?
Those are great looking stands.

Rod:

I believe they are set at 22 which places the tweeter at ear level.  If you decide to call Core Furniture please tell Arnold Marr that I said hello.  He is a great guy and a very serious audiophile.

Ken, which model did you use?

I sit in an office chair, and so use a taller stand.

Hey Rod....

Speaker stands....24".....best of the bunch...Osiris......but you'll need to find them used....if you can.

A good replacement....Dayton SSHM-24 24" High Mass Metal Speaker Stand Pair...at Parts Express...

I've never inverted the speaker....their heavy enough without flipping them upside down...

Just remember....get a strong stand....their not lightweights.... :weights:

I'm curious... have you guys noticed a definite, quantifiable difference in listening to the Timepieces at ear level?

I've owned some version of the Timepiece since 2004, and I've tried a different listening heights since getting the first pair, but I've yet to notice a much of a difference with the Timepieces.  I was surprised, but I think it came from years of listening to speakers without a waveguide surrounding the tweeter.

Actually, it makes sense to me that there wouldn't be a difference, but maybe I've just missed it.

There isn't that big a difference....the sound stage is big ...as you know.
The quality and strength of the stand is more important....but I still find 24" about perfect for the TP's.... :thumb:

Not with the TP's.  My previous speakers which used a ribbon tweeter, very much so.

I'm using Solidsteel 24" stands for the Mini's and they're the perfect height.

Hi Guys

Great thread.  Initially I plant to put my mini on a pair of bedside drawer chests.  Then I hope to get a handyman to make some stands according to the TNT 'stubby' article:
http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/stubby_e.html

Great to know the concensus height is 24 inches.

Thanks
Bill

I built a pair of stubbys and would recommend against it.  It's just not all that impressive or sturdy.

Thanks for the tip.  It looks like a pair of steel one 24in high is the go.  Will need to search the internet for what is available here in Aus.  If any one knows of a good one let me know.

Thanks
Bill
