The New VMPS OMG Sub series
« on: 26 Jul 2010, 08:53 pm »
Well some of you might have noticed that Brian has been working "overtime" again.  Not only is he busy producing this years Live versus VMPS show in Vegas, but he has taken a big leap in the SUB arena.

While VMPS Subs have always been known for their POWER in the past, to be sure, the HT SUB builders have been busy at work building MONSTER drivers with Earth Shaking output.

While our vision of the perfect sub is STILL the one that is the most musical and lowest in distortions, we also recognize the desire of our customers to want that OMG moment when it is called for in their HT or full Orchestra recordings.

To that end we now have the VMPS OMG Series of Subs which are now available in ALL the following models:

215
LARGER
VSS
VLA

These subs will still be exceptionally musical, and accurate, but when the moment calls for it like Viagra, the OMG Series is READY for the test

These Drivers are SO massive and heavy that we cannot ship them installed in the subs.  They MUST be shipped separately and they too are in TWO boxes.  Then when you receive them you attach the motor to the woofer, then attach the leads to the woofer, and screw the woofer to the cabinet.

This is what the driver looks like:

Here is a youtube that explains how to assemble the driver after you receive it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1RIMfzCxXM

We will offer the 12" and 15" TC woofers.

This is what the OMG VLA would look like:

The OMG VSS:

The OMG LARGER

And the OMG 215:

While B, has mentioned some pricing, I will try and put together how the package works.

They will be offered as OMG Series Packages and will require the Woofer and the new TUNED Passive Radiator to accomadate these drivers.

We will offer these packages as "UPGRADE Options" to your new SUB purchases as well as "in the field Upgrade Packages for those of you who would like to place them in your present VMPS subs.

Full package pricing coming soon.

As James Bongiorno once told me, it is when "Shock and Awe" just isn't good enough.

I resisted the temptation to contact Tilo (TC Sounds) for several years, not believing the reports from OEM and DIY users about their drivers' power and definition.  And price.

However, the new series, now less than $500ea for the 15" and below $350ea for the 12", was irresistable.  To go with it, the kind people at Alpha Products Chicago made me a custom basket with a 3/4" bump, allowing the PR Xmax to exceed 30mm, a perfect match for the TC.

You may never have to move furniture by hand again!

At last!  Getting one of those TC equipped (OMG)  subs would leave one wanting for naught.  I can only estimate that all things equal, the TC sounds drivers would probably pound out 25%-33%  more energy than previous drivers...is that about ballpark?

I've been thinking of buying the upgraded woofers for my Super Tower /r's for some time now.

Just curious, would these be a possible upgrade for me, or would they not match the specs of the /R's?  I realize that IF they would work, new PR's would probably be a must.  Pricing would be great too.

Thanks for your time!

Yes, these WILL NOT work with the old PR's.

They will be avaialable in a "package" of DRIVER & PR where B, pre-load/tunes the putty for the the PR.  I think the putty mass will be a bit larger, but the procedure will still be the same for accuracy and low distortion.

Thilo claims these have exceptionally low distortion (single digits) and THAT is what moved B off center on them.

I'll post the OMG Package prices as soon as it is ready.

That VLA (OMG series)  has to be one of the most potent commercially available hifi bass systems on the market.  Certainly compared to anything south of $60K.

John, are these the prices for buying a sub?  What about upgrade prices?  If you were going to upgrade a Larger and couldn't afford to upgrade both the 15 and 12 inch drivers in two Largers, would it be better to upgrade the 15s in both or the 12s in both?

Hi Bob,

For HT you are likely better off going with the 15".

You would need both the Driver and the Passive Radiator.

I'll PM you the package for both the 12" and the 15".

I don't want to sound out of line, but you might want to begin using bolts and T-nuts instead of screws for your subs, and shelf braces every 4-6 inches would be a good idea in order to reduce panel flexing.  The VMPS speakers I have are a bit older, so you may be doing this already.

In fact one of the internal braces could also support the woofer magnet, which I've seen done when very heavy drivers are used.

Good idea.  We're going to have to support those 195oz magnets.  We'll add some bracing too.

It pretty much seems like you'd want a VSS box to start with.  :o

Well I've got my TC 15's in 3 cubic foot boxes of 1" MDF with 6 internal braces.  I've contemplated building new boxes with 1.5" MDF.

I just placed my order for the 215 upgrade package.  Looking forward to hooking it up the moment it arrives. The sub is used strictly for HT duty.

Brian and I have had to re-compute the above pricing with INTRODUCTORY SPECIAL pricing, and here are the results.

OMG 215 = $1099

OMG LARGER w/15" driver only (no 12") = $1149

OMG LARGER w/15" TC and 12" VMPS MegaWoofer = $1219

OMG VSS = $1999 (add $200 for Piano Black)

Not sure how long these will be in effect, but get in line now.

And Look further at the VMPS Circle for a BASS LOVERS announcement!!!

How do you spell "perfect bass" in your room?

Hint:  It starts with VMPS OMG, and ends in 8033.
