Well, some of you have been wondering what amp was going to arrive this week and be the possible replacement for the DNA-500 that has been sold.

Many guessed, but nobody came up with the right answer -                    the BAT VK600SE.

I haven't yet fired up the BAT (it was a big enough struggle getting its 110+ pounds out of the box) and I am not attempting by myself to place it on my Sistrum platform.

Where is John Cassler when you need him?  :weights:

Stay tuned over the coming weeks as I get a handle on what this amp can do and compare it to the very good Channel Island D-200's.

Sounds like a girly amp....I'd have to cut ONE of my Kraft 400's more than in half to get it down to that weight.....

Seriously though, best of luck with the new amp.

The same amp that the Positive Feedback reviewer said this about?:

"The BAT pieces are easily the finest amplification chain I have ever heard; period. The VK-600-SE simply has no shortcomings, none. Transparent finesse, silky smoothness, confident refinement, and virtually limitless power and dynamic range without compromise of any sort."

Nice

A plane ticket and Lunch will get me there, but after buying that "whopper", you're probably spread a bit thin.

I was guessing the Dart Zeel (sp)

Dada, dada dada, dada, dada dada dada, dada...BATman 8)

Good score!!

Now a pair of Vandy 5A's and you'll have no more (of your) mountains to climb.

George, it's not that heavy. I've placed a VK600SE in a tight rack before by myself. Not so fun, but wasn't terrible...

Where'd it come from might I ask?

Congrats on the new VK600SE amp George.   I wouldn't lift it by myself better stay on the safe side.

That is a fantastic amp! Let me know if you don't like it, I will sell my other car to finance it.

Just in time for the long weekend.

I'd like to hear what you think of it compared to the DNA 500.  I'd think it would be very very close for quality only different.  Congrats, Victor is a great person too.  Just make sure you don't drop it on your foot :o

Yeah, yeah I know he got a good deal on it.

I was wondering if it came from my neck of the woods. If it did there's a good bet that I installed that exact amp when it was new. I mean really, how many of those are out there?

Wow- that looks BAD ASS!  I've always liked BAT gear.  I heard the BAT VK500 and VK250 via Tito and Levi- both very nice SS amps.  Nice score and looking forward to the review.

Wow nice amp  :o

Question:

From the BAT website: "A full length double array of Depth Charge style oil capacitors commands your attention and provides a liquidity and ease in music playback that is as effortless as a live performance."

Are the oil caps used for power supply filtering?

Thanks

I believe this will run hotter as it is bias more into Class A.

It's a little tougher when you are trying to balance it on top of a Sistrum 101's three points and you don't want to totally scratch up the bottom of the amp.

Thanks.

Maybe one day I'll get the AVA amp in that you like so much and see what it sounds like.

George,

Did you spend a lot of time demoing this amp?  I've never heard it, but really thought the VK500 was a nice amp.

Nope, never heard it.   :o

To be honest, I haven't really liked the sound of some of the lower priced BAT models and I was very hesitant to pull the trigger. A few friends I trust (and own the darTzeel) said it gets pretty darn close to the darT and would be a nice improvement over the DNA-500.

I hope they are right.

Well, assuming you bought it used, I'm sure you could just flip it if it doesn't work out, as BAT is pretty mainstream, or "blue chip," if you will.

George,

I think MarkR7 had one.  I bought my DNA-500 from him and I think he had BAT before and CJ350 after.  Now he's going with the Dodd 120's according to his latest posts.  He might have some suggestions for power cords too.

Enjoy the new amp!
