BDP-1 Users,

I have been using a MacBook Pro with Pure Music as a digital music server. I have built an iTunes Library composed of wav files ripped from CDs, hi-rez flac downloads, and mp4 downloads from the iTunes store. If I want to switch to the BDP-1, would it be as simple as copying my iTunes library onto a hard drive and connecting the hard drive to the BDP-1? Or would I need to do some type of conversion, or start building a new library from scratch?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide. I hope there is an easy answer to this.

I'm sort of in the same place as you.

I just got my BDP-1.  My library is iTunes ALAC in a PC environment.

I just copied all of my album files to an external HDD.  Still working on artwork but the music works like a charm.

btw the BDP-1 sounds great, waaaaaay beter than my PC based system.

Jeff, I'm not sure how it works in a Mac environment, but my BDP-1 is connected to my local network via Ethernet. I move my iTunes (AIFF) files from my iTunes directory to the hard drive connected to the BDP-1. If the Mac works the same way, you don't have to copy to the hard drive and then connect it to the BDP-1.

I believe the BDP-1 plays wav files, but understand that wav files do not handle tags well. I have used FLAC in the past, but now find AIFF as good, and easier to use through iTunes.

I am in a similar situation.  I don't use I-tunes that much but my wife has about 5k songs in her library.  I have been streaming using Apple TV or direct play from IPad using Cambridge Audio dock.  How do I copy her library to a hard drive?  With Apple having designated computers to sync. etc., I am reluctant to "mess" with her library.  Looking at file options do I export library or is there a different way to copy to HD?

Steve, isn't there a way simply to connect your hard drive to the computer where your wife's iTunes are located, find where her iTunes files are located on her computer, and then just move them to the connected hard drive?

Thanks for the reply.  I am away from home for a few weeks so I can't try it.  I think that you have answered my question.  The music file copying process is "outside" of ITunes functions and just involves standard file copying?  I was reluctant to experiment with moving files for fear of screwing up her music library; an outcome that would have a high probability of creating domestic discord.

Steve, I'm no computer whiz, but I copy my iTunes files outside the iTunes functions - I send these copies (via my network) to the hard drive that is attached to my BDP-1.

Thanks again.....When I get home next week, I'll give it a go.  I began ripping my CD collection a few weeks  ago and found that direct HD hook up was much faster than transfer over my network.

Initially, I did what you do. The bulk of my 16K of files were copied this way. Only recently have I been using the network connection to the hard drive connected to the BDP-1, and then using it to move ripped CDs. Therefore, I've not compared the speed of one method to the other systematically. Moving just a few CDs over the network seems quick enough, especially as opposed the connecting, reconnecting, and then to get the BDP-1 to read the new files.

I agree, however, ripping 20-30 CDs at a time, made direct transfer the better option when considering the time vs "hassle" variables.

BDA-1 also, but for now will be running BDP-1 BNC out to SPDIF in on my Cambridge 840C DAC input.

I'm using the same set up. Yes, the Cambridge will do 176.4. Biting the bullet as well. Too many digital sources so I'm getting a BDA-1 because of the multiple inputs.

How do you like the sound of the BDP-1 with the 840C input?
I will use the BDP-1 with a ARC LS17, Bryston 4B SST2 and Magnepan 1.7's.
I'm pretty happy with the current sound, but if pressed, would say the
system tends a bit toward the bright side at times. I am considering the Rega DAC also.
I also ordered the Bryston digital cable to run out of the BNC output. Any suggestions
or opinions on other DAC options and digital cables would be helpful.

I used DBpoweramp reference version to rip all files accurately to AIFF. A new basic Netgear wireless router is waiting for the BDP-1 to arrive. I have an iPad2 that I will install MPOD onto for use with the BDP-1. Am I missing anything? Are there any noise concerns with placing the router directly on top of the BDP-1 or should I place it as far away as possible?

Sounds like you are in good shape   Also consider mPaD.

For those wanting to sync their iTunes library or any library for that matter you can check out:
Windows:  SyncToy from Microsoft - Free
Mac OSX:  DropSync in the App Store - $10

All you would need to do is mount the BDP drive and then set-up the tools to copy over the files.  You can either schedule these programs to sync the files or manually run the program after you've added new music or updated any tags.

What are the differences/benefits of Mpad vs. Mpod?
I wasn't able to find a useful example or explantion when I did a search.
I'll try whichever you recommend, but would like to understand the difference.
