Just wondering if anyone has heard the Anthony Gallo Acoustics Reference III speakers. I just read a great review on these speakers @ 6moons. Any and all comments/opinions are welcome.

Yep, I've been intrigued with this Gallo speaker since I saw an ad in Stereophile a few months ago.

Looks great; priced right.  Thanks for the link...didn't know about it.

I heard them at CES. They were in a pretty large room (by CES standards) w/ plenty of space behind and to the sides of them.

They sounded excellent. Sorry, it's been a long time, but I remember them being very airy, having a "sweet" high frequency and a very authoritative low end. I don't remember walking out of that room and thinking they had any serious flaws. They certainly held their own against the more expensive speakers at the show.

I'd definately give them an audition if you're thinking about them. The only thing about them that'd worry me is the dispersion of that tweeter. I think you'd better have either a largish room to put them in and get plenty of space from walls or a lot of room treatments.

jgubman, you describe the wide dispersion tweeter of the Gallos as though it is a problem. Maybe in some way it is, but a wide dispersion tweeter will enlarge the sweet spot (I hate tiny sweet spots) and also will give more airy ambience to the highs.

I have not heard the Gallos yet, unfortunately. But their tweeter design seems to have more advantages than disadvantages.

My local dealer said they will be getting them in the begining of next month and will let me know when the system is setup. I plan to go have a listen and will give you my thoughts. For anyone in or near Seattle, they will be at Speakerlab on audio row.

The only disadvantage to the old Gallo tweeter was that it was too good!!

I could always hear a small seperation between the tweeter and the woofers.

The Ref III's don't use the same tweeter so I don't know how it will sound vs the old tweeter.

That being said, they Gallo References were very good speakers and if I didn't have a big room, they might still be here!

They should absolutely be worth an audition.

Interesting, so the huge dispersion area of the gallo tweeter doesn't cause reflection nightmares in medium-smallish rooms? I really did like the sense of air w/ the ref III at CES, I was just worried that in my room (21 x 13, w/ speakers along the 13' wall ~ 2-3 feet from the side walls and 4 feet from rear wall) that the dispersion would be a challenge rather than a benefit.

Zybar, how would you compare the gallos to your RM-40s?

Well, I did have the Gallos a good deal into the room so that they wouldn't be near any room boundaries.

I think they would probably do well in your room.

The 40's are much more dynamic and revealing.  They are also more cohesive and present a more accurate presentation without losing the music.

I will say that the Gallos disappeared better than any other speaker I have owned or heard.  I also personally liked the way they looked on the Barcelona stands.

Heard them at the HE2003 in SF and was very impress, they were in a rather large room and the bass output was phenemonal. If I were looking for speakers these would be at the top of the list, for the money I didn't hear anything at that show that was comparable.

As I commented in another thread, I listened many times to original Gallo Nucleus Solos and References in different rooms and both adapted very well, sounding great even in a very small room except for limited bass. The tweeter was probably the best I have heard, dissolving the walls in every room!

My only doubt about the new Reference III would be how well the low tweeter reproduces height, something the originals weren't great at.

I heard them at CES and really wanted to like them.  Unfortuantely, I thought they were only OK, but those are my ears, the CES room, etc.
