It's certainly one thing to point out a products advantages and disadvantages, I don't see that as a negative review - and we do that on a regular. We just reviewed the current John Curl Design, the Parasound JC2. It has limited loading options, that might be a problem for certain end users, so we always try to point that kind of stuff out, so you can decide up front if it's a piece of gear you want to investigate.
I've reviewed and listened to enough gear in the last 30 years, that I can pretty much make anything sound bad if I haven't set it up properly or matched it up with synergistic gear and cables, not to mention the room interface.
So to just come out and write a purely negative review of something because the reviewer didn't like it, couldn't set it up properly (more common than you might think), or it wasn't a match with the rest of their room/system (even more common) is irresponsible in my opinion.
