Iphone 4s? or wait for the Iphone 5?

Ok, hmmmm.. Debating what to do here, I am tempted in placing an order for the new iphone 4s, however I already have an iphone 4 w 32gb which I need more space "SERIOUSLY!" but dont know if I should wait or just go ahead and order it through Sprint who has the BEST prices and UNLIMITED DATA for just $10!~ What I pay through At&T and Verizon compared I think that Sprint is a way better option and cheaper and in these days you need to save some $$$.

Have anyone pre ordered their phones and decided to switch carriers as well??

I ordered the 4s 16GB since I don't use it much for music. I stuck with ATT since I have had no issues lately and I think they will be the faster carrier when the dust settles. I am in Charlotte.

I have a 3GS so it is a real upgrade for me, plus I am looking forward to voice commands in my car.

Just a matter of time before Siri voice command is bundled with Apple computers, too, I suspect. Won't that make them the pre-eminent premium choice in computers without peer for a few years, eh?

Can you imagine looking for a document inside your computer and just telling it to Siri to find it while you are working on some spreadsheet or graphics, or surfing the web, or whatever. What a mind-blowing way to create added efficiency in your day while at your 'puter.

My 'puter (laptop) was brazenly stolen in Lille, France last week (smashed the glass in broad daylight and took my laptop/bag...which had my passort inside, too. Nightmare to get home, ultiamtely because of this)

Anyhow, upon coming back I had to truck out to Best Buy to buy a new one. I was very impressed with the Mac , but the cheapest full featured Mac was $1709 at BB. Now it was a sweet machine, but your talking $2K with tax and a 2 year warranty out the door with the Mac.

Meanwhile, a great PC with the same capabilities (Samsung is making some sweeties now - no wonder, they supply Apple with a lot of parts) costs maybe $1400 out the door with warranty.

As I didn't need a great 'puter, I bought a very nice HP for $950 out the door with warranty and tax. I'm thrilled with it and Windows 7 is quoite good and not a resource hog like Vista was.

The point I'm getting is that if the same differential in costs exists next time between PC and Mac and the Mac has Siri...I might've seriously given it more consideration and might've walked away with an Apple.

That Siri is nice - I have on my iPhone 4 and it's sweet

There are many Macs less than $1700. What's your definition of full featured?

Macs meet many pricepoints nowadays...and honestly, the QC is unmatched by the cheaper PC offerings. But anyways..

I have an Evo 3D and while I do like it, I'm considering going with the Iphone 4S. The Iphone 5 is likely a ways off (maybe they're waiting for the next generation of tech to come out). This is sort of a given based on the size of the order Sprint was forced into purchasing. The 4S is still more than enough phone for what anyone could use it for... the only issue is really the size of the screen. I have to say, I do like the 4"+ screen on my current phone compared to my Ipod Touch 4G. With a likely best-in-class camera, a new OS, better battery and faster processor...I think it's worth looking at. The older Iphone 4 still keeps up with phones right now, the differences are there, but not nearly as noticeable as they were when the Iphone 4 and Evo 4G first came to market. When the Iphone 5 comes out, it will likely be noticeably better. The major area for improvement is battery life (so long as they keep a best-in-class resolution). A tiny bit thinner solution would be a nice upgrade, too.

Do phones really need quad-core? Not really. Do phones feel sluggish with basic things? I don't believe so.

15" screen to start - as a desktop replacement...and DVD burner. That lists at $1799 and Best Buy had it for $1709 or so

Waaay to much $$$ for my needs in my opinion. I didn't need the awesome processing power of quad core i7 processor...which I realize is some of the reason for high cost here.

The HP I bought has a rather decent AMD Vision Quad Core chip - roughly equivalent to an i5 in processing power and 8GB of RAM. Plenty good enough for me and word processing needs, some Excel and PowerPoint work) and a pretty fair value at $875 out the door with tax and 2 year warranty.

But, if the MAC had Siri running the show, I might've given more serious thought to shelling out the extra, frankly. I think that Siri is just a groundbreakign change in computers coming.

It'll be a bit odd to see folks at Starbucks in the not-too-distant-future talking to their computer, tho

If you're looking for a 15" laptop, totally agree. Apple has nothing other than a premium high end offering today. I think it's definitely a hole in their portfolio. Having said that, the 13" MacBook I would guess has equivalent resolution to the HP that you bought, and the 15" MacBook Pro likely exceeds it by a wide margin.

As an aside, my understanding today is that HP notebooks are among the worst for reliability. Dell and Lenovo would be safer bets.

Haven't tried Siri yet...hopefully soon, and yes, for what you seek I can understand why you'd be let down by Apple's offerings.

I would avoid most windows laptop makers except for Asus, personally.

There is no proof of the 'iPhone 5' is going to come out any time sooner than a year from now. There is no proof that it will have a 4" screen, there is no proof it will have an ice cream dispenser. So if you like the iPhone 4S get it, if you want to wait for iPhone 5 and hope for a bunch of bs that probably won't happen, then pray to the Apple gods for what all the misinformed pundits conjure from the ether.

From what I know of Apple they don't play the 'keeping up with the Jones' mentality. A 4" screen is ergonomically incorrect. You cannot operate the device with one hand period, if they figure out a way to make it ergonomic then yes they will change the design, but don't count on it.

I have the I4 32g. I don't use most of what the phone can do but the only reason I would upgrade is to move on to 4G LTE. Since the I4s doesn't have that, I see no reason to buy it. My plan was to hand down my I4 to my wife but that will obviously wait. Even though Verizon doesn't offer 4G service in my area I can't see buying old tech. We'll have 4G next year they say so perhaps that will coincide with the I5.

PEZ, guessing on the order info from China, was there last week, also with Sprints 20 Billion dollar deal, they will have it. If i am right great, if not, Samsung Galaxy 2s, even faster than 4s.... If wrong... I'm so far out of my contract... who knows

I'm holding out. I like the form factor of the 3GS more. The curved back. We have a 3G, 3GS and a 4 in the household. I really like the 3GS best. And my daughter just dropped her 4 and shattered the screen today........

My contract with Verizon is up and I'm getting offers to upgrade my old "multimedia" phone. I'm definitely going to get a smart-phone this time and have been looking at the new 4S and the latest Droid offerings. Houston already has 4G, so that's pretty attractive. I don't use the Internet features on my phone very often, but when I do I like it fast. As far as I can tell, speed is the only advantage with the Droid phones. Is the difference between 3G and 4G that noticeable?

If I was to buy an iPhone today I'd likely get the 16GB because it's in my comfort zone for price. My question to those that own one, what exactly fills your iPhone memory? Is it music, apps, or a combination of the two? I saw two posts that said they ordered the 64GB version. That's a hell of a lot of storage. I can't see myself ever using that much storage, but then again, I said that about my first 1GB PC hard drive. Do you think the "casual user" could get by with 16GB?

Siri sounds really f-ing cool.....

I use an Ipod Touch (same thing, memory-wise)...I use about 50/50 Apps to music with my 32 GB. Have 7 GB left over, not a huge inventory of music, but what I do have is all lossless on it. It really depends on how you listen to your music... 320 kbps MP3, 256 kbps, lossless...

16 can be fine unless you're demanding the highest quality from your audio. 16 GB goes fast then.

4G is basically like wifi speeds at home with a cable modem connection. 3G is noticeably slower, but fine for most purposes unless you ever find yourself loading videos for any reason. Videos are way nicer on 4G...don't have to wait and wait.
