I just ordered a pair of X-Omni's from Danny yesterday and I'm just seeing your "dynamics/mega power" comment here now.  :duh:

How much power is needed to drive these properly?

Thanks!
SN

I have heard Mojave's modded X-Omni with a very powerful Cherry amp behind it (and an MFW-15 Turbo), dynamics a plenty.

My X-Omni is powered by a 75 wpc Exposure 2010S and backed by CS-18.T Duo subs. Not so dynamic. Other speakers I have had hooked to this same system have a little more jump factor, subjectively. I DO NOT have enough room to give the X-Omni to breathe properly, so take that into consideration.

Don't let my post scare you off the X-Omni, they are a major bargain in the speaker world. All speakers have compromises, enjoy these for what they are.   :thumb:

Perhaps plug the port and use a sub to augment?

This is how I run them. I have an old pair of rolled up socks just for this purpose, they do well in my WAF-1s, too.

I finally got around to putting these together yesterday.  I just have to sand and finish and drop the drivers in...  I am very impatient to hear these :hyper:.

I just plugged mine into a tv only setup with a gizmo... Unfortunately there's probably not enough power there. Anyone know how the pegs come out?

Enjoy your pair... They're pretty unique and a great bargain but do your best to give them room to breathe.

There seems to be some kits left and some assembled units in the Sale of All Sales thread...

Yep. No grills or bases with them though. Really well priced though as the discount on them is pretty heavy.

Done!

These things have no business sounding this good! This is really surprising, they sound so much better than the xls that they used to be.  And they are really making me wonder if I should build my N3 into a tower

Edit:  Does the O3 use the same drivers as the N3 (could I just get the crossovers and make O3 out of my N3)?  Does the O3 trump the N3 the way the Omni does the xls?

Yep, X-Omni's beat X-LS. Pretty cool huh?

The N3 and O-3 only have a tweeter in common. Everything else (including the woofers) are different.

The kit at 169$ bucks is an absolute no brainer.  Anyone thinking about these speakers just get them.  Thank me later :D.

So how do the N3 and O3 compare?  We don't get a lot of feedback about the O3.

Thanks buddy!

N3 are more precise but will have a smaller soundstage than the O3

My goodness you do stunning work! Great job. I wish I could build cabinets like that, I'd do a lot more DIY.

I upgraded from the x-ls to Danny's N3.  If I had the x-omni I might not have felt the need to upgrade.  The omnis are really engaging for music, the soundstage is big and the bass is quite good without a sub.  The tweeter is not as seductive as the N3's tweeter but it is still very good.

Thanks for the compliment Scott but I would save "stunning" for Reuben's work.  I think the speakers do look good in baltic birch though and it is a pretty simple project.  A table saw* and a router with the Jasper circle cutting jig ( this thing is foolproof) make it fairly easy.  The only tricky part are the miters.  And you know that if you did more DIY you could make nice cabinets .

*  Just for anyone who does not know, when you set the guide on the table saw and cut pieces, all the pieces are exactly the same size.  So if you cut the front baffle and the interior braces at the same time the front will fit perfectly.  It is not a bad idea to always cut extra parts, that way you can throw away mistakes you might make later on.

Those omni cabinets do look very cool in the clear birch ply, reminds me of the old white shadow maple from back in the day.

Danny, maybe this is a stupid question.  Considering that this design is proven to be a bang-for-the-buck overachiever, and the new "x-pro" designs you are working on are building off this tweeter, any thoughts to an updated version of  this design using the tweeter in the new waveguide and one of your new high-end 6.5-inch drivers on top?  Maybe even without the waveguide, but just the new driver on top, kind of as a "drop-in" upgrade with new crossovers?
