Round 2, Oct 8th
« on: 29 Sep 2011, 08:05 pm »
I'm ready for another get-together, a few more designs that weren't ready last weekend will be by the 8th.  So why not host another?

Address again
5962 Town and Country Ln
House Springs, MO  63051

We can do shooting again before, but no chit-chatting in the driveway first.  If anybody wants to shoot, say so and be here by 10:30am ... then finish up shooting by noon and head inside.

This time I will setup 3 rooms, and make the upstairs room the Metal room  :)  Also should have the new Ming Da MD75 here for listeing, 4 KT88's per channel - should make a very nice comparison with Steves EL156 monos.

More info coming soon, just wanted to get this posted.

Hi Ryan,

I don't see any problem with either day. Whatever works for you and the guys will work for me. If it is ok, I will bring the test 7A kit preamplifier to see how they sound with your speakers.

Cheers and thanks.

Just need somebody to hold the targets.  Somebody fast and agile preferable, makes it more of a challenge.

So Sat or Sunday works for you Steve?  I'll talk to the wife tonight and decide which day.

The 9th is perfectly fine as well Ryan.

Cheers.

Can't wait!

Thanks again for the listening session the other day.  The Breeze really is an amazing little monitor.  That FIM recording of Fanfare for the Common Man was so rich, with such luscious harmonic content, and rendered so wonderfully by those little speakers, I was just stunned!  It's going to be phenomenal when there's a pair of 8" woofers under each one.

I've seen that picture before and always thought it was funny (in a weird sad kind way), but I never noticed that downrange are buildings.  :o

I said there was a chance I might change to Sunday the 9th, but no need ... Sat the 8th it is.

Hey Sturgis, hope you can come again ... we didn't get to share a cigar last time!  Weather is looking like it'll be perfect again, I'll try and be a little more relaxed so we can sit on the deck and burn one.

Alright guys, we'll do some shooting again ... but this time we start at 10:30am and stop shooting at noon.  If you want to shoot, be here by 10:15am.  People with NO shooting experience are welcomed, and encouraged.

For listening we'll have a pair of Cirrus, Arcus, Aurora, and Breeze.  Quick rundown of each

Cirrus - RAAL 70-20XR Amorphous Core and Audio Technology 18H 7" woofer in my brick *hitouse cabinets.  This pair will have Teflon V-Caps in the crossover.

Arcus - Maybe the only speaker in the World like it ... big Beyma Air Motion Transformer tweeter and the Acoustic Elegance 10" woofer.  92-93db sensitivity, capable of 118db SPL, and incredibly articulate drivers with distortion as low as anything I've ever measured.

Aurora - The big'ish curvy stand mount with the 8" Vifa woofer and silk dome tweet in a custom 9" diameter waveguide.  Extension to about 30hz, good 89db sensitivity, a great sounding near full-range monitor.

Breeze - Maybe the most ridiculiously overperforming speaker I've ever built.  This thing just sounds sooo ridiculously good.  It has the RAAL 70-10D Amorphous Core and a Wavecor 6" woofer with lots of new tech built in.  Last time you heard it with one baffle not even bolted down so it was chuffing like crazy, neither cab had any stuffing in them, and 49 cent zip line speaker wire running out the binding post holes.  They're all buttoned up now, and sounding even better.

That's a pretty exciting lineup if I say so myself!  I sure hope to see some new faces, and old friends.  Steve from SAS Audio Lab will be here, and we'll be running his fantastic sounding gear in the main room.  Main floor room will have the new Ming Da DA75 integrated, Quad of 6CA7 for plenty of oomph.  And not sure what I'll run in the upstairs room.

I think Heather is going to make us a couple pots of chili this time - white chicken and regular chili.  I'll get some wine and do like I did last time, keep the decanter full for all to partake ... but if you want to bring some beer or a snacky item, it would be appreciated but certainly not mandatory to bring anything.

Ryan,
Any idea what size group you might have?  I am a little embarrassed to bring my speakers over as the boxes are very rough. When I get a good crossover I have some nicer boxes to put them in.  I am also struggling with missing my favorite football game of the year.  The Red River Rivalry.  It comes on at noon.  My wife suggests recording but I don't know.  I am very excited to see and hear all the new models.  I will see you later today.

Yip, same subdivision, a bit less than a mile away.
You passed Ryan's house when you came to my place.

Hello Howard, how are you Sir?  :D
Hope life is treating you well.

Is it rare to have 2 difft AC members in the same neighborhood, living on the same street?

I live in a fairly populated downtown area & don't know of anyone right close to me. Same as when in Chicago.

Bob & Ryan live in the middle of nowhere, 20 minutes from most anything.  so weird!

I hope to make it out there later on.  I have a Warpspeed Optocoupler passive preamp on loan & will bring it for show & tell.

No doubt the local wildlife is running for the hills about now...gunplay in the valley begins soon
