Something Cool

Over on Diyaudio these is a company selling a bunch of waveguides and horns that look very cool.  http://www.diysoundgroup.com/WaveGuides.htm The prices are very good too.  I think a well thought out kit could be pretty cool.

More info http://www.autotech.pl/pdf/audio_en.pdf

Like Jason, I have responded to posts without realizing what circle I was in, but it was HT cOz that created this topic about DIY waveguides.

I am certain Jason didn't intentionally post a competitors ad in this circle, i am simply bringing his attention to it.  HT cOz's post is about a product that may be used in conjuction with Danny's offerings, not in place of.

Actually I did post it knowing it was a GR product.  I didn't know that GR now has Waveguides.  Where can I read about them and purchase them?

Also, I'm a customer of both so I have no preference.  They both make completely different offerings.

That's not what I was referring to.  One of your links takes you to Earls full line with prices.

Danny is working on a waveguide design per another thread, I don't think it is ready for primetime yet.

Again, I don't see why that's a bad thing.  So does the OP's thread.

If Danny wants to move or delete my posts, have at it.  Meant no harm at all.  Just following up to the OP as for the WG.

That's fine, I have said my peace, Danny can do with it as he sees fit.  But again, the OP links to WGs only, your link takes you to full speaker kits that would be in direct competition with Danny's offerings, that was my point.

No Ed, my link takes people to a list of different parts.  One part of the list is the Waveguide ONLY.  I'm sorry that the one part in question here happens to have other parts and assembled speakers on it.

EDIT:  I also think the 3 pairs of Super V's that I've recommended and customers purchased shows where I'm at.  MANY different speakers for people.  Regardless of the speaker there is no ONE speaker that I recommend for everyone.  I think I've done really well for Danny and company (Dodd, PI Audio....).

Sorry if I offended anyone and especially Danny.  I do think that his OB subs are a natural fit with waveguide speakers of any manufacturer.  I would love to get Danny's opinion on some of those wave guides and horns.  Plus no one is offering a professional kit with those parts.  Knowing that Danny is a master crossover creater, I think there is potential synergy with my OP.... Does that make sense?

Here you go!
So, let me get this straight - OB waveguide speakers?  That sounds awesome.

Yep, two models in the works.

Again Ed, there are NOT products that are for sale NOW.  Very different.  "In The Works" doesn't mean much.  Do you have any idea how long it takes to properly produce a product?  Do you have any idea how long Dr. Geddes has worked on his?  That's why the important parts have a patent.

OB Waveguide and Geddes are so different this is silly.

First of all, I don't have an issue with you guys posting this stuff here, even the Gedlee stuff. Quite a few of his customers have also become our customers because they later buy Sonicaps from me and various crossover components used to upgrade those speakers. Quite a few of them have purchased No Rez from me as well.  :thumb:

The deal on the wave guides that most people don't understand is that you can't just take a tweeter and shove it into a wave guide and expect any reasonable results. I have tested a bunch of those things and several of the plastic ones from Parts Express. I have yet to find a tweeter that can be used in any of them that didn't have real issues.

There is a lot of loading that takes place in the throat that has to be adjusted for. And most of the time there is some cancellation effects and some real dips that occur because of the throat loading, shape and size of it.

And just when you get it all worked out and a smooth response and then try another tweeter in it, then you are starting all over. One tweeter looks great and another a disaster. I have a lot of measurements to show this. Some of it depends on how the back side of the dome is loaded by the rear chamber and how the tweeter reacts to a difference in the loading.

So in a way it is a huge dis-service to the DIY community by leading them to believe that this idea works by just picking a tweeter and mounting it.

I have two new models that I am working on that will be available as kits using a pre-cut front baffle and wave guide. I have some new 6.5" woofers being developed to use with them as well that are going to be a real cut above any commonly available small woofers. Really cool stuff coming.... And I think I will have some samples here by RMAF to display.

+1

As you noted, drivers and horns (including waveguides, which are a type of horn) must be very carefuly matched, and doing so is not trivial.

I look forward to hearing your new wave guide speakers.
