From the title of the thread, are we to assume that you are trying to stream wirelessly to an airport express which is attached via Toslink to your DAC?

It appears that Pure Music does not support AirPlay:

"Less is More Controller Mode (Command - L on the keyboard) disconnects Pure Music from automatic iTunes interaction, reducing the CPU footprint for those desiring a purely “minimalist” approach to audio file playback.

This mode also can be used as a quick way to disconnect Pure Music from iTunes, for playing unsupported media types, such as streaming audio or Internet radio, or using AirPort / AirTunes directly."

Understood that you are using Pure Music/ iTunes on your computer as the source. However, from what I gather, you are attempting to stream from your computer to an Airport Express, which is then connected to your DAC, correct?

Just trying to confirm what you're working with, pretty sure I understand the problem.

yes. using a mac mini.  opening puremusic which automatically is opening my itunes.  Airport express attached by toslink to my Rega DAC which is attached to my integrated amp.  never had a problem until i attached pure music.  if i just open itunes without the pure music attached it works fine.

Ok, as I suspected.

When you stream from your Mac Mini using only iTunes, you are using Airplay as the method of streaming. This works fine, as you note. But, as SRB pointed out, Pure Music does not support Airplay. So when you use Pure Music as the player (meaning iTunes is no longer the player, PM uses it only to access your music), streaming will not work.

The solution is what I use, called Airfoil. Airfoil streams audio wirelessly, like Airplay. However, unlike Airplay, Airfoil will stream any audio source on your computer... such as Pure Music. I use it to stream Spotify, audio from my web browser, or players like Pure Music. It costs $25, and is well worth it. The streaming quality is equal to iTunes/Airplay, IMO.

I'll follow up with the link...

Pure Music does not support Airplay, i.e. you cannot stream to the Airport Express using Pure Music.

From Channel D Support:

"For users who want to be able to use AirTunes to stream to an Airport or an Apple TV or some other networked audio devices, many users have reported success with third party streaming utility software called Airfoil, that intercepts the audio stream from Pure Music. If using Airfoil, be sure to set the Airfoil volume controls to a neutral (0 dB, no boost or cut) position. This way, the benefits of Pure Music's dithered volume control are preserved, and the audio plug-in support of Pure Music also can be used, as well as managing FLAC playback using the iTunes user interface.

To use AirTunes natively within iTunes disconnect from Pure Music by activating the Pure Music Less is More Controller Mode (described in the Pure Music User's Guide included with the Pure Music download)."

Do you find Pure Music a big improvement  over iTunes?  When using Airfoil with Pure Music is the sound diminished at all?
