The description on the page describes only the VortexBox, not the SOtM interface. Follow the 'Info' link for the
description of the SOtM. Like I said, not a very well done web site. If they would put photos and descriptions of both pieces of hardware on the page for the bundle it might be clearer.
One thing you could do with this is run SqueezePlay on the VortexBox, then use the SOtM USB to S/PDIF interface and it would emulate a Squeezebox. But you're right, the advantages of a network player are somewhat lost when you place both the player and server in the listening room.
