Any model train fans out there?

So my father was cleaning out his basement and found my old train set.  I have 3 HO engines and 17 HO cars plus I have an older engine / coal car with 3 metal cars (collectable?).  These are larger, not sure of the scale.

The HO cars look good.  The older ones are a bit rough.  That said, these have been in a box for probably 30 years, so I can't guarantee anything....   

Before they go to craigslist, I thought I'd see if any of you would be interested in a trade for a decent set of headphones.  From a quick look on e-bay it looks like engines go for about $10-12 ea and cars for maybe $5-7 ea....so discounting the old metal ones, I think these are worth maybe $100 to $150.

So maybe I throw in a little cash of my own and I figure I may be in used Grado 325, Sennheiser 600/650, or AKG territory.

Sorry, I've not touched a train in a few decades and I don't have any cans for sale.

From the pictures, it looks like the HO stuff is run of the mill Tyco / Bachman stuff.  No real value to these....

The engine appears to be American Flyer S guage.  If that's the case, unless it's almost mint condition, you might get a hundred bucks for it.

Now the cars appear to be tinplate, which would put it into the pre-war Lionel / Marx province.  Again, condition plays a big role here - the caboose and gondola look to be in very good condition (based on what I see), the box car less so.  Again, maybe north of a hundred for each piece.

From what I understand, the toy train market is in the pits right now, so don't expect premium pricing.  I'd check with a hobby shop for contacts with collectors; that would probably be your best bet, at least to confirm age and condition.

Bob, thanks for your perspective.

The older engine looks ok.  The coal car's "connection hitch" is broken.  The metal cars are a little banged up.

The HO stuff is pretty good, but as you say they're probably common items.

But from what you're saying, I may be able to ask $200 or so?

There was a good train store near by, but they closed.
