Cujobob and Jackman - You two can stop your squabbling right now. At least your teams have a QB. All we have in Denver is an evangelical teenager's heartthrob. The league is littered with stand out players who were eliminated by Josh McDouchebag. Consider Brandon Marshall, Jay Cutler, Payton Hillis, Tony Scheffler for starters. Can you name some others?

Big Blue is going to have a tough time with Atlanta, but they can definitely win it.

It's always tough going against a team that plays dirty.

The Chargers are keeping Norv Turner ... who would've thunk?

With the amount of money involved, you can bet that everybody gets whatever edge they can.
Dirty play by linemen, holding and face guarding by def-backs, signal stealing lip readers, HGH, filming, bribes, you name it, it's been tried or is in use as we speak.

What's that expression? - if you ain't cheating, then you ain't trying.

The Lions handed it to the Bears, before the Bears started playing well.  Rumor around here is that Cutler started to disregard some of the pathetic play calling of Martz and did his own thing for a while.  Either way, they were a different team when they faced the Lions for the second game.  You must be kidding about the Packers/KC game because it's completely unrelated to the Lions' loss.  The Packers simply overlooked a bad KC team and played poorly.  The Lions lost to a Packer team, in an important game, that was playing with backups including a QB who had not started a game all year.  The backup QB up record numbers against the Lions' starting defense and you are complaining about a call?  The Lions should have beaten the Pack by more than the touchdown they lost as a result of an admittedly bad call.

Also, Cutler wasn't injured because of a bad O'line.  He broke his thumb trying to tackle a guy who intercepted one of his passes.  It was a freak play that killed the Bears' season.  It's not a stretch to say the Bears gave Detroit the wildcard slot.  The Bears had a cake schedule at the end of the season and managed to lose to some of the worst teams in the league before throwing in the towel on Hanie.  They would have beaten KC, Seattle, Denver and possibly Oakland with Cutler and would have probably beaten those bad teams with McCown at QB.  Detroit is lucky to be in the playoffs but their luck appears to have run out.

I'm curious to see how this young Lions team does against a legitimate playoff team, playing all of their starters.  Both teams are at full strength and playing in a dome, which is good for the Lions.  Megatron is the most dominant offensive player in the NFL (non-QB, IMO) and he has a good young QB with a strong arm throwing him the ball.  They can score points but can they stop the Saint's offense?  This will be a good test to see if the Lions are ready for primetime or if their season was a fluke.

This is the year of the upset and I expect at least one or two of the big teams to be knocked out.  The Giants did it a few years ago when they came into Lambeau and knocked out the Pack in route to a Superbowl victory.  I hope we see some upsets this upcoming weekend.  Anything is possible.

Cheers,

J

That's just it, the Packers/Lions game was not about one call, there were many many calls. The reason Detroit couldn't challenge the no-touchdown was because they wasted two challenges on other poorly officiated plays (both of which they should have won but poor camera angles prevented them from proving a player was down by contact when it was pretty clear).

As for the dome thing, I'm not sure...that 44-41 or whatever Packers game was outdoors. And Stafford's injury was on a random play at the end of a game in garbage time, I believe, when he accidentally hit a guy's helmet with his finger on his throwing hand and played through it.

I don't see the Lions beating the Saints, though it is possible. I'd say they have maybe a 20% chance, depending on the health of a few guys. The Saints have the offense Detroit is trying to build. Detroit's defense can be formidable but hasn't been consistently, perhaps due to the number of injuries faced in the second half plus Suh's suspension and concern over more flags. Schwartz put down a zero tolerance rule for penalties which could make the team less aggressive and work against them. Detroit's biggest issue on offense has been running back health. They lost their main guy to concussions (Best), the other starter-to-be was lost with an ACL in preseason (Leshoure), the backup has a brain tumor, and Kevin Smith has faced injuries as well. Not that it matters because...they...can't...run...block. Never have been able to.

Macrojack, teams can turn around quickly and I hope just that happens in Denver. There are a number of good QBs out there now so I wouldn't worry too much. Denver actually has some talent at a number of positions.

Oh yeah, and as for Martz...his offense is one I've always enjoyed but it takes a lot of talent and knowledge to pull it off. Chicago just didn't have it. If Detroit had built a line while he was here, then they could have made it work (it wasn't too bad in Detroit).

Flynn's success for the Packers makes me wonder if Rodgers is really that good or if the team is just really talented and he's benefitting from all of that.

Like the Broncos, the Giants are the best of a bad division.

disagree..........Eagles were by far the better team down the stretch, trouble is they forgot to play all 16 games this year. Bottom line..........NFC East is a joke.

I agree, the Eagles were playing very well at the end of the season but dug too big a hole to turn it around.  Lots of teams are probably relieved the Iggles didn't make it into the post season.  Same is true of the Chargers.  They were playing much better than the Raiders and the Broncos but that losing streak earlier in the year cooked their goose.

Cujo, I disagree regarding Martz.  The modern game has passed him by and he needs to go away.  Glad to see him out of Chicago because he almost killed Cutler.  I was at the Giants game last year and it was painful to watch this guy taking 7 step drops every play with three defenders in his face.

Maybe Martz can be effective if he has a Pro-Bowl, HOF or future HOF QB (Warner), running back (Falk), receiver core (Holt and Bruce), and offensive line (including Pace).  Then again, anyone would look good if they were coaching that group!  The best thing the Lions did was to kick that guy out of town.  I think time will tell but many Bears fans feel the same way.  The Martz system was holding back one of the best young QB's in the game, Cutler, and I look forward to his success in a better system.

"Tim Tebow's worst nightmare" is how Skip Bayless this morning described the game with Pittsburg.  "John Fox won't let him play to win, his receivers can't beat anybody" and on and on said Bayless.  Bayless is a Tebow believer, btw, so his comments went every which way but about Tebow, but I don't disagree.

By far and away most of the AFC was a joke this year. Both the Cowboys and Eagles would have been wildcards if they were in the AFC.  Can't wait till Sunday when the G-men pluck those dirty birds like a Thanksgiving turkey :thumb:

Im looking forward to this weekend's games.  I don't have a favorite this week but will enjoy watching most ofte games.

Tebow is an easy target and it appears he has lost all of his confidence. He's playing worse than ever but the Steelers are pretty banged up. If Denver gets to Big Ben early, this could be a low scoring defensive struggle.  I'm a fan of the Steelers but they are too banged up to beat the good AFC teams. Denver
is not a good AFC team.

Denver is probably not a good SEC team at this point, Jackman. But this game is just the sort of setup that produced Tebow's earlier successes, a seriously compromised opponent, so who knows. While I agree that there seems to be no way the Bronkies can win this game, something tells me the unthinkable might just happen.

If it does and Denver advances, I'm sure all of us would agree this time that it was a fluke. And next week at either Baltimore or New England, how do you like Tebow's chances there?

Those look like very reasonable picks to me.

Macro-  What, is Fox gonna play to Tebow's strengths?  Turn the boy loose on first down, first quarter.  Give the defense something to get excited about, a lead.

Is it at all possible that Tebow has only done well when other teams have been up because they were playing prevent?

I think the Broncos are going to need a little luck to win this week but nothing is impossible. I'd like to see them go to a no huddle offense from the start and throw on first down occasionally.  Not bombs, just short passes and slants.  I'd also like to see them spread the defense out a little and let Tebow run out of a shotgun.

The Steelers are very fast and they are a good defensive team.  Denver is going to have to play much better and complete some passes to have a shot against the Steelers.  Maybe I'm crazy but I don't think they will get blown out.

I expect Detroit to lose by more than the ten points they are getting. New Orleans is playing well and they are a veteran team.  Megatron will have a big game but I don see Detroit stopping the Saints' offense.  On paper this is a high scoring afair...but this is the playoffs so anything is possible.

The Giants played well againt a banged up Dallas team but I expect the Falcons to win this game.  I wouldn't bet against the Giants because they can be tough when they are hot, and they are playing at home. Another interesting game that I can't wait to watch.

Broncos will need luck certainly but there appears to be something else perking. Reports say that Brady Quinn has been taking half the snaps in practice this week. He's rusty, previously unsuccessful and may not know what to do without the clipboard he's so used to holding, but They're saying that Fox will have Tebow on a short leash and Quinn ready to sub in.
Watch out, Pittsburgh - Quinn rhymes with Flynn.

As previously mentioned by another member, a smart strategy for Denver would be to play Tebow as a wildcat Fullback. Maybe a game plan along those lines explains why Quinn took extra snaps today?

I just don't think Denver is that gutsy.   We'll see.  :thumb:

I'm going out on a limb here and predict that the Lions will cover the point spread. In fact, it's quite possible they could pull off an upset.

It depends on Detroit's defence.  They have a number of starters back that were not available the fist time they played.

Also think the Bengals can win their game as well.

We shall see.  That's why they actually have to play the games.

The league wants a Saints Packers game imo
