I have to agree the Pack got a couple of more calls than the Lions did. But come on the Pack only had 4 punts in the whole game.  The LIons had THREE.  Half of the Packers Pro Bowlers were sitting.  :P
I have no doubt the Lions would have taken a cheep shot at Rodgers were he playing.  I do not like Schwartz!
Defense wins championships.  Defense will be the downfall if the Pack unless they take a way at the right times.

Don't matter now.  You loose and you're out.  Time to Play some ball.

OH yeah, I like Stafford and think he should be in the probowl.
I also think Flynn could play for any team in half of the nfl.

How about a GB/NE Super Bowl? Neither has any defense and both are prolific scoring machines.
Figure a 82-76 win for the Pack. Sounds like a basketball score.

Or that college bowl game the other night baylor vs washington 67/56. I think if the Last nfc Playoff game is Pack/Saints it could be good and high scoring just like the 1st game of the year. The saints are hot right now but they also seem to lack some defense. The Packers D isn't great but the do get turnovers(not enough pressure on the QBs this year).

Dallas is dead and there is no new Dallas.  What was once a great organization, is so nevermind these days it hurts.  They looked like shite tonite.  Completely outclassed.  I think Jerry is left with no other choice but to clean house.  But, as that wouldn't include him, there is not much hope there.  I believe all the best organizations have owners they can respect.  Where does that leave us?

Like the Broncos, the Giants are the best of a bad division. Unlike the Broncos, they have a quarterback and an offense.
Dallas does seem to be doomed by it's owner, a curious mixture of Donald Trump and Rick Perry. Everything about Texas seems outsized and synthetic; a triumph of style over substance. Why should the Cowboys be any different? They are drowning in Jerry's ego ooze.
I would be yelling about Saints all the way but then I remember Seattle last year and losing to the Lams this year and I wonder if they will lay another egg. It only takes one off day to be eliminated this time of year. No do overs.
The Pack depends on it's offense to outscore the opponent. If that fails, they're done. Same goes for Pats. Both give up too many points to win consistently. Or so I say -- they have the best records in football and neither had an unusually easy schedule.
San Francisco seems too weak on offense to go far. Defense is their key but I doubt they can hold back Detroit, N.O. and G.B, Falcons and Giants. All can score in bunches. Lions seem to be too raw still. Falcons aren't quite up to the level of best NFC. Giants are schizoid - by far the least predictable team in league this year.
AFC gives us the other Harbaugh, almost good enough team -the Ray-vens. Can they beat Pittsburgh three times in a row? Donkeys are one and done. Texans too.
Second round is Cincy at NE.and Steelers at Balmer. Where does it go from there? Does Andy Dalton outshoot Brady? Does Ruthlessgroper stay on his feet for three more games? Is the loss of Mendenhall fatal? Will Pittsburgh be stymied by John Fox's crafty run up the middle on every down offense? Will Tebow surgically dismantle the Steeler's defense with his precision passing?
Can Denver win with just a punter and a placekicker? Stay tuned........

I guess I'm stickin with New England and Green Bay for the SB, tho I would prefer it be New Orleans.  I'm fuzzy on next weekend . . are Mr. Tebow and Mr. Suggs about to become acquainted?

I have to disagree with "Defense wins Championships", it's just no longer true or the Steelers would be the defending Superbowl champs.  The NFL has successfully ruined the game by making one half of the team meaningless.  It now resembles pro basketball where offensive stars run (pass) up and down the court (field) making spectacular scoring plays, but no one plays the game.  I agree that GB/NE is as good a pick as any for the Superbowl, the over/under would be about 70, who cares.  After LSU plays Alabama, real football will be over for the year.

This is a period in time where offensive players have gotten so big that they're almost undefendable (yes not the appropriate word). That's why the passing game has gotten so big and why the records are all being beaten. In the past, it was either size or speed or jumping ability and now some of these guys can do it all. Giving the qb more protection has also aided in offensive surges throughout the league.

My Lions won't be able to beat the Saints but they shouldn't even have toface them. Oy.... http://www.freep.com/article/20120102/SPORTS01/201020485/Officiating-vexes-Jim-Schwartz-calls-go-against-Lions usually when refs blow calls, the team will get gimme calls but there were none.

Soundbitten - I share your feelings that the Giants may be getting their act together at last but "peaking" seems like an overstatement. They have beaten the lifeless, crippled Cowboys and the hapless Jets recently but got walloped by the Deadskins the week before. Not a picture that promises domination.

Jim - The Bronkies have to beat Pittsburgh in order to face off against Mr. Suggs. I am not particularly hopeful about that eventuality.

Letitroll - Before you give up on interesting outcomes in the NFL, keep in mind the great equalizer (the refs) and the effect they can have on any game. A team like GB or NE can be beaten by a Denver or San Francisco simply by suspending the pass interference rules for one game. We've seen it happen - even in the Super Bowl. Everything depends on the script. It's all entertainment, you know.

We don't need domination ... just wins.   :D

Cujo, while I agree offensive players are getting bigger and faster, so are defensive players.  There has been a change in the NFL this year but it's nothing to do with size or speed, it's with officiating. Defensive players are not allowed to touch receivers or hit quarterbacks the way they used to in previous years. Drew Brees, Aaron Rogers, and Tom Brady didn't suddenly get better, the enforcement of rules have helped them rack up record numbers.  Don't get me wrong, these guys are talented but they have lots of "help" from officials.

I was happy to see a good guy like Drew Brees break Marino's record but don't kid yourself. If Dan Marino played under the current NFL rules, he would have racked up 7000+ yards.  Brees is good but he is not even close to Marino. The offensive players of today have the deck stacked in their favor.

Casual fans like high scoring games and the NFL is doing everything possible to give it to them...during the regular season.  I expect the officials to allow some of physical play by defenders to take place during the post season.  This is good news for defense oriented teams like the Steelers and the Ravens, and possibly the Giants.  Don't get me wrong, the "stars" like Brady will continue to get preferential treatment, but I expect the zebras to allow more contact during the post season.

Lastly, I hope the Lions and their crybaby coach Schwartz focus more on their play and lack of maturity and less on belly-aching about the officiating. The missed call was bad but they still were beaten out by a second string quarrerback and Packers team who were resting several starters.  I'm sure there will be more crying and complaining next week after they are blown out by the Saints.

PS - i watched the entire Bronco game on dvr last night and take back my Tebow comments. He looked really bad on every throw and that "run up the middle on first and second down" offense is a joke. The team is painful to watch on offense. .

You have it wrong (again).

Read this:

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Week-17-ruling-hurts-Detroit-Lions-on-missed-touchdown-in-loss-to-Green-Bay-Packers-01012

The Lions have had more than their faair shre of blown calls.  They should have won that game, even with the leaky defense.

Oh well.  I still maintain that that the Lions need one more draft to obtain top tier status.  They should be good for a number of years to come.

The Saints are the most likely pick for the Super Bowl.  However, cannot look past the Patroits either.
