Yesterday at the meeting of the So CA/Orange Co Audio Society a "live" cut was played by an artist I seldom hear named Nils Lofgren.

It was from a live album of which there are a couple in print.

This cut was "VERY" good and I thought it the best cut played at the meeting.

First, I was wondering if anyone in attendance knew the Album the cut was from.

Second, if anyone had any recomendations for the artist.

Nils Lofgren is from the Washington D.C. area. Not sure what song you heard so no idea what album it's from. Nils fronted a band named Grin for serveral years. He has played in Bruce Springsteens E street band for many years and I assume he still does. [?]

I was given an LP of Nils about 5 months ago.  It is quite good.  I hadn't heard of him before but I am glad I scored this LP.  Highly recommend checking him out for those fans of guitar led rock like Jeff Beck, Santriani, etc.

It's worth doing a search about him on allmusic.com. Over the years he's played with a pantheon of rockers and some jazz musicians too. I first encountered his playing when he backed Neil Young in the mid-70's.

"Cry Tough" was a good album by Nils.  Also "The Best of Grin".  Not sure if you can get them anymore.

Thanks guys,

It looks like his last album  (released in 2002) was a "live" album and if I had to "take a stab at it", it is probably the one.

I'll look into the other suggestions too.

Thanks

I saw Nils twice.Once when he was a solo act and then when he played with Springteen. He was a College circuit favorite in the 70's and I think the Stones were thinking of using him as a replacement instead of Ronnie Woods.

There is a whole list of things he did that were excellent.I have most everything he did on LP.

"If Keith Don't Go"
"Code Of The Road"

Those are 2 songs I remember off the top of my head that were good.

If you ever get a chance to see him live go for it.You will not be disappointed.

I don't know about the live cut,
but I do know the Grin song "White Lies"
is absolutely a pop gem. I'm gonna go
listen to it right now. I have it on a 3 record
Radio Shack compilation disk that cost
88 cents; I'm sure it was at least 30 years
ago! I never did see any Grin records and I'd
be interested in knowing if they are any good...

This is just a guess, but you may have heard the Nils track from the Sopranos Soundtrack SACD.
