For a cavalcade of cheesy 70's hits - check out Rhino's "Have a Nice Day" series.

I think I might be hijacking this thread as I consider these songs sappy, not cheesy. And like is more accurate now, though when young I did love them.

I'm probably relying too much on semantics, to spare my ego.

There are likely more I can't remember at the moment. But I'll deny I ever wrote this much.

"My Boy Lollipop" by Little Millie Small

"He Ain't Heavy" by The Hollies

"Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell

"Never My Love" and "Cherish" by The Association

Although the last one has been done by Pat Metheny, so maybe it's cool.    :)

Edit: Okay I'll cop to a modern one too, since others have listed it. Britney Spears - (Hit Me) Baby One More Time

Sadly, I like "Straight Up" and "Cold Hearted" as well.

Don't stop me now - Queen.

Not really a 'cheesy' song, but it's amongst those my mom would call  'stupid song!'

OK, it's late, so while nobody is looking, I'll cop to...

"Ode to Billy Joe"...

:duh:  What can I say -- for some reason, it really affected me when it first came out, and while I can safely say I never need to hear it again, every so often I stumble across it on the car radio and, sure enough...

Oh, geez, this is embarassing...who the heck thought this thread was a good idea, anyway!

Edit -- I must be getting old!  Didn't realize this was an old thread, and...even worse...I already posted THE SAME DANG SONG back when it first started.

Just shoot me now, I don't wanna go out like Ronnie did.

I really am embarrassed to admit this one but I actually own the Birdy Song on Vinyl, bought it in the 80's, honest, not sure if you guys over the pond were ever exposed to it but it is pretty poor, I can even remember the dance

Enjoy :)

Super Cheesy for me would include the following:

  • My Sharona - The Knack.
  • Mokerana - no idea of the group.
  • Red  Solo Cup - Toby Keith.
  • Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves - Sonny & Cher
