Erin from the Shanahan's replied to say that it's unlawful in Colorado to bring your own wine to a restaurant. They have an extensive wine list but the going rate for good wine is typically high in restaurants. I would say 2 to 3 times what you pay if you are a savvy wine shopper. Most restaurants in DC and Virginia have a reasonable $20-30 corkage fee. It's not for everyday but if you have a special wine to celebrate a special occasion, it's worth the fee to "splurge" on a special bottle. For example, I plan to take a bottle of Cristal to celebrate my anniversary when we go out because that's the Champagne I used when I proposed. I can get one for around 150 but a restaurant would charge 4-500. Corkage fee is the only way to go.
Citizens of Colorado you need to rise up to overturn this injustice.
Write your reps and sens to change the law. Virginia just passed a law so that you can BYOW as of July 1 this year. Are you going to be less progressive than ol' Virginia?
P.S. There are some "bargains" in the wine list. We had a couple of decent bottles last year at reasonable prices last year. I am sure we will find some this year too.
