Hi James,

Yesterday I finally received my BDA/BDP combo, and they sound even better than the set I had in my place for auditioning. Don't know how, don't know why, but they do! Can not say I feel sorry for that....

I did manage to find the sample usb-drive you sent along  , but after playing had mixed feelings with it. Not because of the quality, although sadly only one recording is in 192 resolution, and precisely that one started playing completely distorted. (had another topic about that already).

But because I firmly believe that the pristine capabilities of the set are not optimally shown through this musical selection. Much as I enjoyed the music, I wonder why you don't select some other music to go along. Something bigger, and some smaller.

I'd be tempted to believe that people, when for example hearing http://www.amazon.com/Shostakovich-Symphony-No-8/dp/B00000IP3D/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_7 movements 3 and 4, or http://www.amazon.com/Puccini-Turandot-Sutherland-Pavarotti-Ghiaurov/dp/B0000041Q3  track 6 and 7, be impressed even stronger. And of course, luckily, there are many more....

I can understand why Linn won't let you send their 24/192 recordings on a thumb drive  ( ) but would dare to suggest you could arrange Gimell to let their 24/92 recordings be presented through the Bryston set. Amazing recordings of a completely different style, that would appeal to a lot of other customers.

Just my modest opinion of course, but convinced of the jawdrapping qualities of your machines, and place they could/should have with so many more satisfied music lovers, I thought to just let you know.

Keep it up and let us know what more you have in stock for us....

If you'd be interested, I could arrange a meet up with the KCO to try and come to some sort of agreement....Have my roots in Professional music too, be it the performing side of things.

Absolutely!  Much more, please. 
The irony is that, with the lacklustre recording practises of today, the better the audio equipment - the worse it sounds!
I cannot wait until the ultimate ability of my gorgeous BDP-1 is realised, with the proliferation of high resolution recordings.

my thoughts up to know: good recordings get better, bad ones stay really bad....and there are a lot of those.
Most of my good recordings are not the latest....on the contrary to be honest.

Save a few modern recordings and adventurous companies (Gimell, Hyperion for example) I find the musical qualities of modern recordings less than relevant most of the time. But I keep trying. Yesterday I heard the live recording of Bernsteins performance of the Mahler 4 again. Was there the complete production, 1988? I listened in awe. I then realized that with his passing an era of ultimate classical music performance stopped. Most of my listening is with recordings of before his passing. Set aside those recording-labels/companies that produce really special editions.

Linn does a great job in modern recordings, but the performances are most of the time not really up to the standards of the bigger names in the catalogue. I rather listen to lesser recordings than lesser performances...

I mean: I've got the Miles Davis Columbia Collection http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Columbia-Album-Collection/dp/B00305GXWG/ref=pd_sim_m_6, and it is beautiful. Some are mono...most (all?) are analogue. Nothing Hi End, but they sure are audiophile heaven.

Well, I'm completely knocked off of my feet.
After a lot of wonderful recordings getting better through the BDP/BDA I found the definitive showstopper:

Bach's toccata in D by SImon Preston in DG 439201-2. They've always been great recordings, and organ recordings are notoriously difficult. Catching the instrument, and the church/hall they're in. Very successfully done on these. Sounded amazing already through the BCD, which tested I thoroughly with these recordings...

Yesterday I ripped my cd's with XLD, an online version (don't know if its hi-res, guess not but mp3) available here: http://store.universal-music.co.uk/euro/classical-choice/simon-preston-bach-js-toccata+fuge/invt/0028947775218d/ and played them. I was amazed. What a difference.

Unbelievable really. I've always used this recording as a tester for my audio gear and it really makes you wonder about the systems, before and without the BDP/BDA....even the BCD doesn't pump this out, and I do mean pump. Those pedals have never sounded so amazingly lifelike, super transparency, and the full cathedral coming into the auditorium. All the air floating around in the hall and coming alive. It has never been closer to actually being there!

Glad you are enjoying the BDP   I think it is one of those products that makes you realize digital done right is really a step forward and maybe hope for better recordings in the future

This link has a tracklist. It's MP3 (why on earth would ANYONE want to download an MP3 version of a classical album?!?).
I just ordered the CD.
