Anybody own a 2011 or 2012 Ford Mustang GT?
« on: 31 Jul 2011, 08:55 pm »
I am thinking about purchasing my first "new era" muscle car.  Anyone have any experience owning any of Ford's new offerings?  I am interested in the 5.0L V8 engine with a 6 speed manual transmission.

Thanks in advance for any insights prior to upcoming test drives.

No, but I drove a friend's '08 to Las Vegas and back from Sacramento.  It was a chore.  I understand the current version addressed some of the handling idiosynchrisies of the earlier versions.  That would be a good thing.  Also, the torque is way down low, which is fine.  But you have to be very careful pulling into your garage as it would be easy to drive into the wall.  lol

Thanks for the information and website link.  After hearing about various issues with the Mustang's, I'm having some second thoughts.

If you spend some time at AllFordMustangs, you will see that the manual transmission issue may be a bit overblown.  For every one owner with the issue, there may be 50 without. It's like a a guy with an issue with his subwoofer that posts about it all over the internet.  While it may be an issue, it may be overblown considering that most satisfied customers aren't going to take to the internet to profess their love for their car.

I have a 2012 V6 Premium automatic with the Glass Roof and other options and absolutely love it.

I'd a buy a sweet Shelby version that's a few yrs old & has been babied.

A friend has an '09, 500hp from the factory, and its ridiculous.  One of the few american car interiors i like too, esp the 2 tone seats & upgraded factory stereo.

i was doing some research on this - the v6 w/the 6-sp seems quite the deal.  i think this really is an issue, not something overblown on the web - nhtsa is actually inwestigating this.  that said, it also seems that jhr has a few not-too-expensive fixes that will make this a non-issue, even if fomoco response is lacking:

I've owned my 2011, 5.0, 6 speed (Chinese slush box), 3.73, brembo package for over a year now.

Mods to date........lowered Ford K Racing springs, adj panhard bar, Flowmaster cat-back, Airaid CAI, American Muscle  93 octane 'tune'

To date I have had zero issues with my tranny, I've got less than 3000 miles on it, it is stricktly for pleasure. No engine tick issues and no #8 cyl issues either. You can see out of it, unlike the Camaro and it doesn't feel like a tank like the Challenger.
