The History Channel has a pretty good series on "Dogfights"...

Although not a movie with actors, it is interesting.

It appears that opinions here mirror those of larger groups of people.   Simply put, war movie fans probably won't like it, fans of comedy probably will, and fans of the bizarre will likely love it!

The Military Channel is playing "The McKenzie Break" right now, a story of the Germans breaking out of a British P.O.W. camp.  So far, pretty good flick.  Brian Keith is doing a pretty very good job as an unorthodox Irish officer.

I don't see that at all.  In spite of the fact I am a fan of all three, as someone mentioned, this movie is clearly a comedy/heist movie set during WWII.  I think the only real issue is the fact The History Channel aired it, as really the only historical thing about the movie is the WWII backdrop.

Most niche cable networks are going more broad and low-brow. It's probably only a matter of time before The History Channel becomes THC, just like The Learning Channel dropped any pretense of learning and is now simply TLC.

I agree.  The History Channel's catch-phrase now is basically as follows:  History - Made every day:  Although this shit just happened, since you saw it, time has passed. . .and time, my friend, is History!

My snide remark regarding The History Channel more so applies to some of its bigger shows, such as Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers.  I truly am a fan of The History Channel, but most shows I like are not aired during prime-time.  I must admit, however, that I am a fan of American Pickers and Pawn Stars (I do not catch even close to every episode, however).  Although some may disagree, I think Pawn Stars and American Pickers fit with connotation of "History" from the title of the channel, as at their core, the  focus of these two shows is on historical artifacts.  Yes, there are clearly scripted events during the shows (especially for Pawn Stars), but the transactions and surrounding events are real (well, at least appear to be. . .).

I still don't see why Kelly's Heroes should have been featured.  The last time I saw part of the movie was also when it was featured on The History Channel.  At that time, if I recall correctly, it was featured on the series where there is a presenter and a historical expert.  During the relatively few commercial breaks, there would be a discussion/analysis of the film as it relates to history.  My memory of Kelly's Heroes being featured on this show may be a false memory; regardless (and again), I don't see any reason for it to be featured on The History Channel (unless the show was a history of war movie comedies/parodies :P).

With this, I am simply agreeing with you that many things have gone (or end up going) more broad and low-brow.  Not to sound like a complete old-fart, but back when I was a kid (I am only 33, after all ), Music Television (a.k.a. MTV) actually played music videos!

Sorry for going off on a tangent.  I am still a fan of Kelly's Heroes!
