If you rummage through your collection of Patricia Barber albums, I think you'll find Mike Arnopol listed as bassist on every one of them.

Mike built his first Altec VOT speaker when he was sixteen years old.   He is an avid and innovative speaker builder in his own right as well as a world-class musician, and is one of those people who accomplish several times more than the average person.  He is about as hardcore as they come.

Intrigued by the internet buzz, Mike wanted to try one of my Thunderchild bass cabs.  He got his on July 26th, and the first line of his subsequent post on TalkBass is:

"first impressions---holy f-ing shite!"

Here's a link so you can read the rest if you'd like:

Congrats, Duke, I wish you continued success.

I see by your title over there that you are a fan of Peart's lyrics.

Excellent, well done Duke. Do you have any pics to share of the "acoustic" version - no biggie, I am just curious.

Other than that, this cab of yours seems like a screaming bargain to me. When I was (much) younger and played keyboards I used a Peavey bass amp, actually.

Awesome Duke!  Congrats.

I've been thinking about getting back to playing....if I do, I'm buyin' your cab.   :green:

I forgot to take pictures, sorry... will try to remember next time I build one!

The two versions look identical from the front.

I've gotten some positive commentary on amplified acoustic guitar as well:

Here's the back of mine, showing the auxiliary rear firing tweeter:

Mike Arnopol posted an update earlier today.   Apparently he thinks the Thunderchild is the "best cab I've ever played through".

I can hardly express my enthusiasm for the little Tc since I first heard it Dec 2010.

I brought the Acoustic Friendly (rear tweeter) version to a friend/bass player (he owns about seven-eight electric basses, most of which he built, and two double basses).  AF/Tc sounded so good that he played it for 45 minutes before even plugging in his Phil Jones Suitcase combo, only to quickly confirm the obvious-not in the same league.

The Tc sounded so good I didn't even notice I was sitting directly behind it for one period when we experimented with control settings on the head amp.

Another AF/Tc sold/another inferior used cabinet for sale!
