AVP 16 and OPPO 95: what is the correct speaker setting priority??

Have been a happy AVP 16 owner for years.  Just dropped in an OPPO 95 blu-ray player and tossed the old Panny.  Am running a home theater setup in 5.1 mode-- large left and right speakers, large center channel, small left and right surround and a large subwoofer.  Listen primarily to the OPPO but occasionally watch HDTV via a digital connection to the NuForce (HD movies and sports transmit in 5.1).  OPPO is connected to the NuForce via the 5.1 analog outputs and the stereo outputs.

The OPPO has the same speaker configuration tool as the NuForce.  Occurs to me that running both the OPPO and the NuForce speaker adjustments might not be optimal-- one set of frequency adjustments should do the trick.  Seems like running a signal through 2 sets of crossovers.  Assume this question comes up regularly but couldn't find the thread here.

So what's the right way to tackle this?  Bypass the speaker settings in the OPPO?   Logically, it would seem best to send unadulterated signals from the OPPO to the NuForce and let the NuForce do the frequency adjustments for all input sources.  If so, what to do with the blu-ray player settings?

thanks much.

Read some old threads.  Appears the 7.1 analog inputs may operate in bypass mode.  Correct?  Meaning the AVP 16, when in 7.1 analog mode, outputs without regard to the AVP's speaker settings?
