a Squeezebox Touch would be (is) my choice. the platform also brings in all radio and Pandora etc..
also can be modded to get incredible sound quality.

I appreciate the suggestion. :)

I took a look a the Touch.  If I'm understanding it correctly, it would wirelessly retrieve the music from my computer (via my wireless router?) and play it through my audio system.

I only have a laptop, so when it's on, it's with me.  I'm thinking the Touch would just be an extra device to control/access the music on my computer.

At this point I think I'm just looking for a simple device that would allow me to connect my laptop directly to my computer, hence my inclination at this point to get a USB-S/PDIF converter.

Once I get started (and learn a bit more :wink:), if it turns out I get hooked on computer audio, then I'll probably look into setting up something music server/network.
