My V-1s new digs
« on: 5 Jul 2011, 02:25 pm »
Taken since last Christmass but I'm basically done with the Vs new home.
Have to thank Ed (ebag) for the suggestions, went with his curved back diffuser
and it sounds amazing, really opened up the soundstage.
The hrs I have spent with these are countless, and I have never looked back......

Looks great Perry, I am glad the diffuser worked out for you.  I am envious of your room, what a great listening space.

Can you comment on what you heard with the installation of the ceiling treatments?

Best,
Ed

Very nice looking setup Perry. The center diffuser is intriguing, can you provide additional information on this piece?

Ed.......I dont think the ceiling panel is staying, it seemed to lower the soundstage a bit and
just doesnt "feel" right......hope to get some suggestions on types of diffusion panels (perhaps another poly?) to place there.

As far as additional info on the poly diffuser, that would be Eds department. I out right stole
this idea from him...with permission of course ....and I'm glad i did. There is a ton of DIY
info on making the panels.....but as far as diffusers I found it confusing and a bit daunting.
The poly panel is made from 1/8" masonite(?) and I built a frame from 2"x2" lumber....I know Eds
is fixed to the back wall, but my dedicated 20amp plug is behind it and by placing it on feet it allows
me access the the plug and hides it and the cords at the same time. It was an easy build...about an hr and didnt cost more than $25 for the materials.......and it works really well!

Thanks for all the compliments, its turned out to be a great listening area....couldnt of done any of it
with out Audio circle.....from the great speakers from Danny to the room itself.... :thumb:

The PI Audio Group diffusor panels that Dave makes have worked well with my Super-V's.

I know that they had them at Axpona in April in the Carnegie Acoustics room and it sounded very good!

They are very light and can be put up with something like Velcro if you do not want to install them permenantly.

Just a thought.

Hum that is interesting my ceiling is treated with absorbtion and one of the only things that I don't like currently is that vocals seem a bit low.  Like I'm looking down on a stage.

That looks incredible!  Do you build audio rooms for a living or something?  :P

Thanks Hal...thats something I'm going to have to look into.

Corndog.....My first audio room, but I've been in the wall and ceiling business for 30 yrs.
Built a few soundproof rooms in radio and tv stations over the yrs but
mainly big commercial buildings, nice to do one for myself for a change.

Bit of an update....

Have a friend that takes professional photos of our horses. She came for a social visit
and didnt bring her equipment. First time she has seen my new room and decided to grab her 14yr old daughters camera and take a coupe of shots. Its a nicer camera than I'll ever own or know how to use and with some strategic lighting and computer enhancing she took some great shots.
I've made a gear stand and added some tubes to the mix. The pic is of my GF A-88
and my new amp, Musical Paradise M-401. The MP really makes the V-1s sing, after the pic taking was over we sat for a full 4 hrs and enjoyed the tunes. These speakers are just amazing, I can only imagine what the Super Vs sound like.

Oh my, THAT is beautiful!  Well done.  TAS or Stereophile or somebody should be summoned to visit and do a spread.

PS-  I have my wall behind the speakers lit like yours.  Somehow it helps finely focus the aural brain on the proceedings, dunnit.

Perry, what a great shot, your room looks fantastic!  I really like your equipment stand, do you have any closer pics of it?

Best,
Ed

Jim.....when I was building my room it was my wifes idea to back light the room, its one of my favorite features, its on a dimmer so I can adjust to my mood/music. Yes it does help focus and relaxation.

Ed....the gear stand was a simple build, its a "D" profile steel stud, painted and heavy
duty 4" pvc pipe with caps. The top is finished with a black slate tile.

Thanks for the compliments!

Ed heres a couple of build pics.....

Wow!  Steel studs have become very artistic looking since I last saw one.  Great use of available materials, it looks great.  I may have to "borrow" your idea... :D

PD-  Have your model speakers been reviewed by any of the audio mags?  Maybe Mr. Dorgay/Tone Audio will give it some thought.  For the subjective part, I would hope that the author would review them in your abode and include photos.  A 'system' review, perhaps.  Could be an ongoing feature.  I think that would be entertaining, myself.

That IS a fabulous stand, yes sir.  Perfect, visually.

Man you pretty much nailed it there...wow, and the stand or riser with equipment on it is absolutely perfect, its like a designer got involved and picked out the exact perfect stuff, my favorite part is the fact your another guy who enjoys Musical Paradise's equipment. I don't know how Gary does it a MP but his stuff just seems to always sound good. Excellent Room!!!!!! :thumb:
