Breaking Bad - best show now

Yes, that includes the Sopranos and various others.  Deep tragedy, pitch black comedy, and visual poetry all combine in a seemingly workaday family drama.  It is almost Shakespearean how the people become evil (break bad) not in giant leaps, but in inches.  Closely observed and stunningly shocking almost at the same time.  Check it out!

I love the show!  The leadup and final episode of last season was awesome. The final couple seasons of the Soprano's sucked and paled in comparison to BB.  Has the née season started?  I can't wait!

Gotta agree. I don't watch much TV at all, but Breaking Bad is the bomb.  :thumb:

I couldn't agree more. I watched the pilot episode on Amazon streaming several months ago at the suggestion of a friend, and a few weeks later I had seen all three seasons. I"m totally hooked, and Walt is one of the most interested characters ever created for tv, IMO.

I can't wait for season 4  :thumb:

I always liked Cranston's character on Malcolm in the Middle, and by the time I saw him in this show it was already well underway. I refuse to catch a series in the middle so I will either rent or buy the blu-rays.

I think it is ok for what is out now but in no way superlative. For me The Wire is the bar and BB is no where close.

sts9fan,
I agree. But haven't watched any of BB. Looked very good, late to the party, haven't yet.
I watched the first season of Wire as it aired, but that's it. I've long meant to buy all the seasons as the first literally blew me away!
Easily better than the Sopranos imho(which were excellent at that point).
Never have, afraid it's been delegated to the "need to buy and watch" category as have Dexter and Weeds, same deal. Now I need to add Breaking Bad!
Sigh....
I tell ya,if I can just find a Silver '85 Delorean..........

I loved The Wire, just the sheer scale and ambition of that show was awesome.  But I think I like Breaking Bad better - it's a more closely observed character study.  It also shows all those little moments, those small decisions, which all add up to a pretty bad outcome.  Plus it has those moments of visual/cinematic intensity that elevate it from a simple character study, to a truly epic tragedy, and it also happens to be incredibly funny.

Breaking Bad is a dark comedy, like the Soppranos, it's just better. I traveled yesterday and can't wait to watch the shoe on my dvr.  The Wire is also very entertaining. I Have only seen a couple episodes but I liked them a lot.

Breaking Bad rules.         You could teach a class about it in film school. It's the "great American Novel" at it's best...pathos, subtext, great storytelling, unforgettable scenes and characters, etc.

I'm planning to be certain I keep my expectations in check for these last two mini-seasons. The finale from last season was one of the most incredible hours of television I've ever seen. It just wouldn't be fair to hold the show to that sort of standard. That being said, every season has been very solid, so hopefully it will maintain a high level of entertainment quality :D

BTW, I've gotten hooked on Sons of Anarchy lately...it's on Netflix streaming if anyone is interested.
